Not for nuthin'…. But….. when a daytime talk show starts reaching for the Constitution's emergency brake over one rally line, somebody ought to check the patient's chart. Not the President's. The panel's.
What was said
On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, ABC's The View took up the President's Monday night rally line in Grand Island, Nebraska, about Iran and Los Angeles and San Diego. Here's what the co-hosts said, word for word, as reported by TV Insider (Oct 6, 2026):
Ana Navarro: “I think shame on us if we forget about this tomorrow because we cannot normalize the unhinged, deranged, manic, evil, outrageous behavior by the president of the United States.”
Sunny Hostin: “We're talking about 10 million Americans. … I think it's time for people to start taking seriously the possibility of maybe the 25th Amendment.”
Per the Breitbart transcript (Oct 6, 2026), Hostin opened with “He's deranged, man,” and closed by urging people to take “seriously the possibility that this man is deranged.” Whoopi Goldberg asked, “How has this not enraged people in government?” and Alyssa Farah Griffin called it “absolute madness.” The segment got more pickup through the week from the Daily Beast (Oct 6) and RadarOnline (Oct 8).
Context (not spin)
The rally line itself, defending higher gas prices from the Iran war: “It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They could take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay, and it's gonna be over with very soon” (Mediaite). The MOAM has said it before and will say it again: that was clumsy, and plenty of people, Republicans included, said so.
But clumsy isn't a constitutional crisis. By Wednesday, when a new clip from Mr. Trump's San Antonio rally made the rounds as proof he really meant it, CNN's own fact-checker, Daniel Dale, the man who has spent years fact-checking Trump, posted: “In fact, this post even more obviously takes him out of context.” Dale pointed out that Trump followed the line with “We're not gonna let that happen. We protect our cities, we protect our country,” and that he was contrasting what a nuclear Iran could do with what the war costs at the pump (Mediaite, Oct 8, 2026). On Thursday the President spelled it out on Truth Social: “All I was doing was making a comparison” between paying more for gas for a while and the bombing of major cities (The Hill, Oct 8, 2026).
MOAM's diagnosis
The 25th Amendment is for a president who can't do the job: a stroke, a coma, a man who can't sign his own name. It is not for a sentence you didn't like at a rally in Nebraska. Section 4 needs the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet to sign on. Last I checked, Sunny Hostin isn't on the Cabinet, and Ana Navarro isn't the Vice President, no matter how many adjectives she can stack on one sentence. Five in a row, “unhinged, deranged, manic, evil, outrageous,” is a longer order than a large regular with an extra shot at the Dunkin' drive-thru.
And here's the rub. When CNN's fact-checker, not exactly a MAGA hat in the newsroom, is the one telling you the clip is out of context, maybe the folks diagnosing “derangement” across the table should take a second look in the mirror. Around here we'd call that being wicked quick to the panic button. A bad line deserves a hard question. It doesn't deserve a prescription for removing an elected president from office before lunch.
Severity: ACUTE. Prognosis: the patient will recover by the next commercial break and relapse by Monday.
MOAM Out.
