Not for nuthin'…. But….. Wednesday is off to a beauty of a start. Marblehead Harbor is glassy under a clear sky, the Mount Washington camera finally has a view again (with a fresh coat of frost up top), and the Mad River Valley is tucked under soft grey clouds with plenty of color left.
Marblehead Harbor (BYC Oceanfront) — Not a cloud in the sky, and the low morning sun is flaring in from the left side of the frame. The harbor is flat as a millpond, mirroring the moored sailboats and the houses along the far shore, with the dinghies lined up along the Boston Yacht Club float.
Mount Washington North View — What a difference a day makes. Yesterday's lens was iced over solid; this morning it's a clear look out over the northern peaks, with the summit rocks and the upper ridges dusted white with frost and rime, rust-brown valleys below, and a band of haze along the horizon. The summit forecast is partly sunny with a high near 40 and southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph, a gentle day by Rockpile standards, though gusts are forecast to reach 85 mph by Friday.
Great Eddy Covered Bridge, Waitsfield — Grey, moody clouds overhead with a little brightness low on the horizon. The Mad River is calm enough to reflect the bridge and the trees, a few fallen leaves are floating on the water, and the foliage is still showing orange, gold and red, with some trees starting to thin.
Back on the coast it's sunny with a high near 62 and a light south breeze. The Mad River Valley is looking at partly sunny skies near 64, with a chance of showers late tonight.
