New England This Morning — October 8, 2026

Not for nuthin'…. But….. Thursday came in with a little bit of everything. Marblehead Harbor woke up to a pink-and-gold sunrise, Mount Washington is completely socked in, and the Mad River Valley is glowing with fall color under a moody sky.

Marblehead Harbor (BYC Oceanfront) — The sun is just up on the left side of the frame, lighting a sky full of scattered pink and gold clouds over patches of blue. The water has a gentle ripple, the moorings are still well populated, and the dinghies are tucked in along the Boston Yacht Club float.

Mount Washington North View — Nothing but white. The summit is in the clouds this morning, and the camera can't see past the fog. The Rockpile is living up to its reputation today, with west winds of 25 to 45 mph and gusts to 60, a high near 37, and rain showers likely. Snow showers are in the forecast for Friday, with about an inch possible up top.

Great Eddy Covered Bridge, Waitsfield — Heavy grey clouds with a soft pink glow breaking through over the hills. The Mad River is calm enough to mirror the bridge and the trees, and the foliage is a mix of orange, red and gold, with some of the trees along the bank already thinning out.

Back on the coast there's a chance of a passing shower this morning, then mostly sunny and breezy with a high near 69. The Mad River Valley could see a few showers or a thunderstorm this afternoon, with a high near 65.

MOAM Out.
