Not for nuthin'…. But….. Sunday showed up dressed for church. A blazing sunrise over a glassy harbor, the Presidentials catching the first light, and a still, mirror-calm river up in Vermont. Sunny across the board today, with a high near 63 in Marblehead and the mountain valleys pushing the mid 60s. Here's how four corners of New England looked around 7:40 this morning.
Marblehead Harbor (BYC Oceanfront) — The sun just popping over the trees and laying a gold streak on water flat as a tabletop, mooring balls dotting the harbor, and a few boats still hanging on for the season. Sunny with a high near 63 and a light southwest breeze of 2 to 8 mph. A Sunday morning made for coffee on the dock.
Mount Washington North View — Clear sky from one end to the other, the northern Presidentials glowing orange on their east faces, the Auto Road snaking across the summit cone, and little patches of snow tucked in the rocks. Sunny with a high in the 40s and a west wind of 15 to 25 mph. Downright mild for the Rockpile in late October.
Mad River Valley, VT (Great Eddy Covered Bridge) — The old bridge in Waitsfield standing guard over a dead-calm Mad River, the bare trees and the last orange maple reflected in the water, and a curl of wood smoke rising from a chimney behind the village. Sunny with a high near 66 and hardly any wind.
Bartlett Experimental Forest, NH — From the top of the NEON tower, the hardwoods are just about all bare now, gray and russet with a few gold holdouts, while the pines and hemlocks keep the green going against a soft lavender ridgeline. Sunny with a high near 63 and calm.
