New England This Morning — October 9, 2026

Not for nuthin'…. But….. Friday is starting off bright down on the coast. Marblehead Harbor is basking under clear blue skies, Mount Washington's camera is buried in ice and snow, and the Mad River Valley is still showing off its fall colors.

Marblehead Harbor (BYC Oceanfront) — Not a cloud in the sky. The low sun is coming in from the left and laying a bright streak across the water, which is calm with just a light ripple. The moorings are still full of boats, the dinghies are lined up on the Boston Yacht Club float, and the houses on the point are glowing in the morning light.

Mount Washington North View — No view at all this morning. The camera lens is plastered with a crust of ice and snow, so all you see is a grey, frosty smear. That's the Rockpile in October for you.

Great Eddy Covered Bridge, Waitsfield — Clouds are breaking up over the hills with a few patches of blue. The Mad River is still and dark enough to mirror the bridge and the farmhouse, and the trees along the bank are a mix of red, orange and gold, with a few already bare.

On the water off Marblehead it's sunny today with a west wind of 8 to 13 knots, gusting to 25, and calm seas. It should stay sunny into Saturday before clouds and a few showers move in Sunday night ahead of the holiday.

MOAM Out.
