Boston Sports Morning Report — Friday, Oct. 9

Not for nuthin'…. But….. that was a pretty good Thursday night. The Bruins put six on Utah at the Garden and the Celtics went into Cleveland and came out with a W. Two-for-two, folks.

Short version: nobody plays tonight. B's and C's are both back at it Saturday against Philly, and the Pats host the Raiders Sunday at 1. Red Sox season is done.

New England Patriots

• Yesterday: No game (last out: W 29–26 @ Buffalo Bills, Sun. Oct. 4)
• Today: No game
• Next: Sun, Oct. 11 — 1:00 PM ET — vs Las Vegas Raiders (home, CBS)
• Then: Sun, Oct. 18 — 1:00 PM ET — vs New York Jets (home, CBS)
• Standings: 2-2 · 2nd in AFC East · Buffalo 3-1 leads · Jets 1-3 · Dolphins 0-4 · No. 7 seed in the AFC right now per ESPN

Raiders come in 3-1, one seed ahead of us. Win Sunday and we're right in the thick of it.

Boston Red Sox

• Yesterday / Today: No games — season over
• Next: Offseason
• Final standings: 87-75 · 3rd in AL East · Eliminated in the AL Wild Card round

Hot stove season. We'll keep an eye on the winter moves.

Boston Celtics

• Yesterday (preseason): W 124–113 @ Cleveland Cavaliers
• Today: No game
• Next (preseason): Sat, Oct. 10 — 8:00 PM ET — vs Philadelphia 76ers (home, NBA TV)
• Regular-season opener: Tue, Oct. 20 — 3:00 PM ET — @ Detroit Pistons (NBC/Peacock)
• Status: 1-0 in the preseason · 2026-27 regular season not started

Preseason, sure. But winning in Cleveland never gets old. And yes, that opener really is a 3 PM tip on a Tuesday. Call in sick accordingly.

Boston Bruins

• Yesterday: W 6–1 vs Utah Mammoth (home) — Pastrnak with 2 goals and 2 assists, Swayman 36 saves
• Today: No game
• Next: Sat, Oct. 10 — 1:00 PM ET — vs Philadelphia Flyers (home, NESN)
• Standings: 3-2-0 · 6 points · 4th in the Atlantic (Ottawa, Tampa Bay and Florida also have 6) · holding the first wild-card spot per NHL.com

That's more like it. Pasta finally got on the board and the power play cashed three times. Matinee against the Flyers tomorrow.

That's the Friday board. Quiet night, so enjoy it — big weekend coming.

MOAM Out.
