Before you hit share on that six-second clip of Netanyahu at the UN saying “America deserved 9/11,” hit pause and listen to the sentence that got cut.
The claim
After Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Sep 24, 2026, short clips tore through X and Facebook. They show him saying “America deserved 9/11” — twice — with a finger in the air. Captions treated it like his own belief, even a confession.
What actually happened
The footage is real. The framing is not. In the full speech (around the 27–28 minute mark), Netanyahu is dressing down New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and quoting left-leaning influencer Hasan Piker:
“You count as friends people like Hasan Piker, who said America deserved 9/11. America deserved 9/11. Some friends you have.”
That’s attribution, not endorsement. Piker really did say those words on a Twitch livestream in August 2019. Snopes (Sep 25), Lead Stories (Sep 25), and Newschecker (Sep 26, rating Misleading) all walked the same trail: authentic clip, critical context stripped.
