Boston Sports Morning Report — Saturday, Sep. 26

Not for nuthin’…. But….. it’s Saturday in New England and the Sox just swept a doubleheader while the B’s closed preseason with an OT heartbreaker. Let’s run it down.

Short version: Sox took both from the Cubs yesterday and sit tomorrow at Tropicana; Bruins dropped OT in Washington with the Rangers opener Tuesday; Pats wait for Sunday in Jacksonville; Celtics still warming up the preseason runway.

New England Patriots

  • Yesterday: No game
  • Today: No game
  • Next: Sun, Sept. 27 — 1:00 PM ET — @ Jacksonville Jaguars (CBS)
  • After that: Sun, Oct. 4 — @ Buffalo Bills
  • Standings: 1-1 · 2nd in AFC East (tied with the Jets), 1 GB of Buffalo

Quiet Saturday. Load up for Jacksonville — road test tomorrow at 1.

Boston Red Sox

  • Yesterday: Doubleheader sweep vs Chicago Cubs — W 4–3 and W 2–0
  • Today: No game
  • Next: Sun, Sept. 27 — 3:05 PM ET — vs Chicago Cubs at Tropicana Field (weather makeup; ESPN lists BOS home)
  • Standings: 87-74 · 3rd in AL East, 10.5 GB · Wild Card #5 (clinched)

Two wins, one afternoon — that’s how you do a twinbill. Off day today, then finish the Cubbies series tomorrow at Tropicana. October’s locked. Stay loud.

Boston Celtics

  • Yesterday / Today: No games
  • Next (preseason): Thu, Oct. 8 — 7:00 PM ET — @ Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Regular-season opener: Tue, Oct. 20 — @ Detroit Pistons
  • Status: Preseason / 2026-27 not started. Last season: 56-26, 2nd in the East.

Still quiet on Causeway. Preseason tip is a couple weeks out — enjoy the calm.

Boston Bruins

  • Yesterday (preseason): L 2–3 OT @ Washington Capitals
  • Today: No game
  • Next (regular-season opener): Tue, Sept. 29 — 8:00 PM ET — vs New York Rangers (ESPN)
  • Status: Preseason 2-1-1. Season opens Tuesday vs the Rangers.

OT loss in D.C. closes the exhibition book. Real hockey starts Tuesday night — Rangers at the Garden.

That’s the Saturday board, folks. Sox rest after the sweep; Pats and the Cubbies series wrap tomorrow; B’s open Tuesday. Stay loud.

MOAM Out.
