New England This Morning — November 5, 2026

Not for nuthin'…. But….. enjoy the sunrise while it lasts, New England, because Thursday has rain on its mind. The sun's still putting on a show out in Marblehead, Mount Washington is crystal clear for the moment, and the clouds are lining up from the west to spoil it all. Here's how four corners of New England looked around 7:30 this Thursday morning.

Marblehead Harbor (BYC Oceanfront) — The sun is up over the harbor, laying a bright streak across the calm water, with a thin veil of high cloud and a hazy, steely-blue sky. The dock is quiet and the moorings are mostly empty now. Mostly cloudy today with a high near 70 and a southwest breeze of 8 to 14 mph, then rain tonight into Friday. Hang the laundry early.

Mount Washington, NH (Observatory North View) — The summit is out of the cloud and the view is wide open, with the Presidentials stacked up in rust and green under a high, streaky sky and a thin layer of haze in the valleys. Don't get used to it. The forecast calls for rain after 10 a.m., a high around 50, and southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts to 55 mph overnight.

Mad River Valley, VT (Great Eddy Covered Bridge) — Gray and still in Waitsfield this morning, with the old covered bridge tucked in beside bare branches, a few rusty leaves hanging on along the bank, and the river sitting dark and quiet. Cloudy with a chance of rain showers and a high near 69. Today is a day for an umbrella.

Bartlett Experimental Forest, NH — From the top of the NEON tower, the hardwoods are bare and the hemlocks and pines hold the green, with the White Mountain ridgelines rolling off under a pale, hazy sky. Rain is on the way this morning, with a high near 65 and a light southwest wind.
