Boston Sports Morning Report — Thursday, Nov. 5

Not for nuthin'…. But….. The Celts made it a lot closer than anybody in the Garden wanted last night, but they held off the 1-6 Bucks, 109-102, to improve to 6-2 and stay perfect at home at 5-0. Paul George had 25, Derrick White had 24 and made the big plays down the stretch, and Boston did it without Jayson Tatum in the lineup. A 22-point halftime lead nearly went out the window, but a win's a win.

Short version: the B's are in Pittsburgh tonight at 7:00, the Celts head to Charlotte Friday, the Pats host Green Bay Sunday at 4:25 with Gronk in the spotlight, and the Sox are still in hot-stove mode.

New England Patriots

  • Yesterday: No game (last game: W 24-19 @ Miami on Sun., Nov. 1)
  • Today: No game
  • Next: Sun., Nov. 8, 4:25 PM ET, vs Green Bay Packers (home, FOX)
  • Standings: 5-3, 2nd in the AFC East, 1.5 games behind Buffalo (6-1), No. 7 in the AFC (last wild-card spot)
  • Schedule note: After Green Bay it's Sun., Nov. 15 at Detroit (the Munich game, 9:30 AM ET kickoff), and the bye is in Week 11

It's a big weekend in Foxborough. Rob Gronkowski goes into the team Hall of Fame Saturday at 1 PM, and he'll be honored at halftime Sunday while Tom Brady is in the booth for FOX. On the injury report, Hunter Henry (foot) and A.J. Brown (ankle/knee) didn't practice Wednesday, and Drake Maye (right shoulder) was a full participant.

Boston Celtics

  • Yesterday: W 109-102 vs Milwaukee Bucks (home)
  • Today: No game
  • Next: Fri., Nov. 6, 7:00 PM ET, @ Charlotte Hornets
  • Standings: 6-2, 2nd in the Atlantic, 1.5 games behind Philadelphia (8-1), No. 3 in the East

Payton Pritchard left with a right eye abrasion, so keep an eye on that one. After Charlotte, the Celts get right back at Milwaukee on Sunday night.

Boston Bruins

  • Yesterday: No game (last game: W 3-2 SO vs Vegas on Mon., Nov. 2)
  • Today: Thu., Nov. 5, 7:00 PM ET, @ Pittsburgh Penguins (NESN)
  • Next: Sun., Nov. 8, 1:00 PM ET, vs Florida Panthers (home, NESN)
  • Standings: 11-4-1, 23 points, 1st in the Atlantic (2 points up on Montreal and Ottawa), No. 2 in the East, 3 points behind Carolina (12-3-2, 26 points)

The B's are riding a two-game win streak into PPG Paints Arena, where the 5-8-2 Penguins are hurting for wins. Matthew Poitras (broken nose) is a game-time call, and nobody calls a trip to Pittsburgh easy.

Boston Red Sox

  • Yesterday / Today: No games, offseason
  • Next: 2027 Opening Day is Thu., March 25, @ Seattle Mariners; home opener Thu., April 1, vs Cincinnati
  • Final standings: 87-75, 3rd in the AL East, lost the AL Wild Card round to the Yankees

Hot-stove season on Jersey Street. Pitchers and catchers can't come soon enough.

That's the Thursday board. B's drop the puck at 7:00 tonight, so grab your seat. See you tomorrow for the Celts in Charlotte.

MOAM Out.
