Freedom of Speech

So this morning, the MOAM woke with an urge to expound on the issue of Free Speech. Elon Musk deciding to purchase Twitter causing spasms at the authoritarian social media company is undoubtedly my inspiration. Ever since my journalism professor, Dr. Jerome Musgrave, at UMASS laid out how free speech was supposed to work…. I have been an ardent supporter.

Our founding fathers at the birth of America saw how stifling free speech was the tool of an oppressive tyrannical government.…. And thus they codified our right to free speech under the purview of our inalienable rights.
The cost of this freedom is tolerance. We have to tolerate statements that we know are false…. And counter with statements of truth. Then we have to have faith that the truth is exposed from this give and take. That is how freedom of speech works…. It is cumbersome and frustrating…. But ultimately it is our God given right embodied in American law.
Google recently informed the MOAM that it will tolerate no criticism of Ukraine in my blog….. so I can’t call to question an examination of Biden’s pipeline of fund???? We have to be free to have a conversation on any issue. It is our right of free speech.

A Complex Match

So the pros at Nanepashemet took on the task of replicating a complex five piece ceiling molding assembly.  This ceiling pattern was installed throughout the downstairs of this high end Marblehead home.

The challenges were matching  a back layer with bead molding, which we accomplished by routing the back pieces of 1/2" MDF panels.  We installed a layer of crown and a layer of shoe molding over these MDF pieces.  Coated it all with coats of primer and two coats of premium Benjamin Moore White Dove Semi-Gloss.

We pretty much nailed it, and the  customer is very pleased.

Remedy for Road Rage

Today I'm driving through an intersection when some Karen felt that I had the audacity to be in a space that she felt that she was entitled to.   So I get a rude honk.

Which sets the MOAM into a whole other mode of behavior.

If you are behind me, what purpose could you possibly have to blare your horn at me????   My instinct is to hit the brakes and slow to a crawl, if not a full stop,  Then I accelerate as little as possible.... so as to exact the maximum amount of  irritation possible from said Karen.

Depending upon how frustrated she looks from a quick glance in the rear view mirror, I will either proceed to normal speed, or repeat as necessary.

Sometimes, its the little things that make life truly worth living.

Back to the Roots

The MOAM has taken a long detour from his first love... woodworking.... boatbuilding and custom furniture..... but I'm finding my way back.   Dusting off the routers, saws and sanders.

Time to refurbish some old boats like the Herreshoff Tender, and finish the Chamberlain Marblehead Dory.   And there are a host of other nagging projects, like the Adirondack chairs for North Conway, and the walnut endtables for the Nanepashemet world headquarters.  Some buried and rusty skills have to be uncovered, but that shouldn't take long.

The impetus for this is a recent commission that I accepted to do some custom crown molding involving the best of my neglected routing tools and skills.  As I worked on this yesterday, I realized how long I had been away from doing this work that I truly love.

Advice of the MOAM

For some time now, Nanepashemet Peeps have been pestering the MOAM to tell them the secret of why his remodeling business is so successful.  As irritating as this is, I have finally conceded to map out tools that anyone  can use to remodel their home as well as the MOAM takes care of his customer's projects.

First.  You have to look like you are in the remodeling business.  Proper attire sets the tone for all of the work that has to be done.  So the MOAM doesn't scrip on work clothes.  I endorse Carhartt Work Pants and Sweatshirts.  Also Timberland boots.  You can't be a true professional unless you look professional.  And yes.... it has a little "fake it till you make it" essence to it.

Second.  Buy good tools.  In the end, good tools are less expensive than cheap tools because they last longer and give better results.  Better results produce repeat business.  Plus good tools are generally much easier to set up and use.

All of the tools shown on this blog are used routinely by the MOAM on a daily basis.  You can buy them from Amazon, as I have bought most of my tools, by clicking on the photo

Then the only thing that you will need to do work as high quality as we do at Nanepashemet is care deeply about what you build, and get a decade or so experience building stuff.  Learn by doing.

Finding the Right Tool

So today I'm out on a job, trying to install a bathroom exhaust fan between some exposed joists.  Naturally, my right angle drilling adapter is nowhere to be found, so I took the dreaded drive to Home Depot to get another one.  The Home Depot trip is always a pain in the ass.... 20 minute drive each way and then strolling through the big box store to find a needle in a haystack.  And if you have to ask a question to the staff, you are really taking a chance.  While some are super helpful, a significant number of employees are often completely and utterly incompetent.  Such is life in a large corporate setting.

So I headed to the tool department in the Salem store and looked for the tool.  I must have had a confused look on my face or something, so an employee came up and asked if he could help me.   This rarely happens here.  Usually you have to flag someone in an orange apron, and then they often seem perturbed that they have to answer your question.  So I was a little taken back by this gesture of help.

After immediately showing me the tool that I was after, he went along his way in the aisle, and I was intrigued by his accent.  I asked what country he was from and he said Sudan.

He said he has been in the US for 20 years.   Then I asked him if he gets to go back, and he said that he did two years ago, but that things were very bad in the Sudan.   "The oil industry is highly controlled, and is filled with money laundering.  Corruption is everywhere and killings happen frequently," he said.

I think he was surprised at my questions, but was eager to respond.  I asked him what he likes about the US, and he said  "You are safe here.  You can work and your kids can get an education."

I thanked him for his help and headed for the register because I was in a hurry to get back to the the jobsite.  But during the twenty minute ride, I didn't listen to the radio as usual because I couldn't get him out of my mind.

Maybe if we could see our country through the eyes of this Home Depot employee... we would not be in such a divided political state in our country.  Our complaints seem so contrived and petty compared to the problems that beset so many in other parts for the world.   We seem to makeup problems and manufacture offences in our Woke Karen Culture.

More people should run into this guy.

Tripping up Trump

It is disgusting to see the Liberal Democrat establishment use the court system to persecute Donald Trump.  It would be one thing if their efforts were concentrated in a single area, but the persecution ranges in all aspects of his life... even to the point of raiding his home and confiscating personal possessions.

Yet he perseveres and will almost certainly roll to the GOP nomination for President.  This must be so maddening to the Progressive Haters.

If they can treat a badass like Donald Trump like this, they will have no reservation about laying the Bullshit on anyone of us.  It is Stalinist in its effect for as Josef Stalin said, "Show me the Man and I will show you the Crime."  They can manipulate, and fabricate charges to destroy any one of us.

God Bless Donald Trump for bearing the brunt of this totalitarian effort to subjugate us.  It seems like the effort to trip him up will backfire..... again.  In the end, the fear and hatred of Trump is transparent and will have counterproductive consequences.

International Embarrassment

Watching Biden address the United Nations....

After hearing about his son's influence peddling for millions of dollars with China, Ukraine, and Russia..... with an overt distribution for "the Big Guy".... he just seems so contrived and phoney when he addresses these international delegates.

As much as Trump was obnoxious and bombastic....this guy just seems like  a bogus empty suit, spewing the words of his handlers and acting with fake sincerity.  His speaking style is that of contrived earnestness.  It is embarrassing to anyone who cares about the image of the United States in the world.      GAG.

The Gift that Keeps on Giving

So a class action suit has been filed against Gov. DeSantis because of his relocation of 48 migrants to Martha's Vineyard.  Apparently, he would have been in the clear if he had flown them in the dead of night  to undisclosed locations as per the Biden policy.

The island liberals promptly had them deported to a fenced military facility on the mainland,,,, so further crime was no inculcated.

Not for Nothing but... the MOAM's advice to the Martha's Vinetard advocates is to STFU!!!!

There is virtually no sincere political support for the plight of a rich liberal enclave beset with an onslaught of 48 migrants during the off season.  A lawsuit renders absolutely no damage to DeSantis and keeps this example of Liberal Hypocrisy front and center... when it should fade into yesterday's news.

It exposes  phoney virtual signaling and a lawsuit is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Advice to Facebook and Twitter

..

Obama's Lost Opportunity

 Not for nothing but.....

The most famous residents of the posh island of Martha's Vineyard, Barack and Michelle Obama botched a golden opportunity  to capitalize on this MV migrant fiasco.

Nobody called to ask the MOAM how they should show their leadership during this "crisis" of 48 migrant Venezuelans landing on the pristine MV Main Street.  So the Obama's were dead silent....not a freaking word from the former leaders of the free world as the attention of the nation descended on their neighborhood.

If they had bothered to call the MOAM .... Here's what I would have advised them to do.....

Break out the tents and cots that they laid out for the birthday party during the COVID crisis.

Invite all 48 people over and express that they could stay as long as they wished.

Feed and clothe them and hit up the Lib manufacturers like Patagonia for the good stuff.

Invite the fawning Liberal press over and keep the cameras rollling.

Reach out to employers throughout the area to find jobs.

Contact all of the Far Left Schools like Harvard etc. to inquire about educational opportunities for any of these 48.

Keep this going for a couple of weeks..... how much can it cost?????   The PR return would be enormous not to mention the additional Nobel Prizes that they would have undoubtedly won.

But no.  They didn't do this, didn't call the MOAM, didn't  do anything..

The Obama's blew an opportunity that literally dropped in their laps.

Back to the Blog

Back by popular demand is my use of this venerable Nanepashemet Blog.  Actually, it is not by popular demand.... it is the fact that my conservative MOAM wit and wisdom is now so often censored by Facebook and Twitter.

Time to get back to my roots.  #Censorthis Weenies.

The MOAM has returned to the Blog

Math Quiz

40,000 Americans die in automobile accidents every year.
650,000 Americans die from heart disease every year.
500,000 people in the United States die of Alzheimer’s disease every year.
600,000 people in the United States die of cancer every year.
250,000 Americans die of medical malpractice every year.
4,000 Americans drown in swimming pools every year.
62,000 people in the United States die of Influenza every year.

But we shut down the country due to 60,000 Covid 19 Flu deaths this year.
We took the Trump economy right off of the rails.
Why?
You do the math.

Pardon the Pandemic

Although we are supposed to shelter in place during this Kung Flu outbreak, there seems to be a constant parade of people moving past my West Shore Drive home in Marblehead.   Riding bikes, strolling with the kids, jogging, walking the dog..... way more than usual.  Which is fine by me.  I enjoy a little camaraderie with total strangers.   Plus this are lots of masks and social distancing.  Doesn't seem like anyone is breaking the rules.

Since I tend to hang around outside my house a lot.... doing nothing in particular.... I usually confront anyone who passes with a friendly, meet and greet salutation.  It's better and more polite than just staring at them as they pass by.  That would be weird.   Lately though, it's been like everyday is a Nor'east Blizzard.... the way that total strangers are so talkative and friendly.  So maybe the Virus Crisis is like a big freaking snowstorm.... that makes people friendly.... even though they are wearing masks and make wide turns to get around you.

Big Brother in the Making

So the Facebook Police..... (aka little Libbie Asshats monitoring your posts under orders from Mark Zuckerberg) .... are now checking posts for accuracy about COVID 19. Apparently the thought patrol wants to make sure that you don't blame Kung Flu on the ChiComs, or criticize authoritarian measures to curb your rights. I have noticed a number of my posts being circled in red with a delay in posting. Raise your hand if it feels to you like Big Brother is amping up. #RANTOVER

Check Out the Check

Libbie heads are exploding this morning because President Trump signed the Kung Flu checks.  Maybe they should protest by not cashing the checks.  But I can see their frustration.  People receiving checks have not filed their taxes electronically in the past.  Either that or they don't pay taxes at all.  So quite a few Dems will probably have to wait for their checks for a while.  Then they will have to stare at the Prez's signature while deciding whether to deposit the money.  Oh the Humanity!
Another reason to be thankful for being Republican.

Keep Your Distance

Not for nothing, but I'm down with this social distancing thing. I like people keeping six feet away. Can't smell their breath, can't get cooties from them, no need to shake hands.... all stuff that I used to endure in the old days before the Kung Flu. Close talkers.... my all time pet peeve.... is a thing of the past. And I don't even mind the mask..... you don't feel grubby if you didn't shave before going out anymore. And I will bet you dollars to donuts that most everytime I have contracted the common cold, it has been from some snotty nose store clerk who had just sneezed moments before fondling my credit card, or handing me my change in germy bills and coins. So the new norm.... social distancing... is a welcome development here. #RANTOVER

Power and the States

So as much as the MOAM likes the Prez, sometimes he can get quite annoying.  Like at yesterday's press conference where he debated with some Lefty media types that he has the final power in directing the economy to open up..... Don, I believe that you may prevail in that Constitutional point, but that is not the issue.

Power  is not something that you say you have.... You either have it, or you don't.   If you believe that you have the power to tell Governors what to do in this Wuhan Flu issue, then use it.... or don't use it.  Talking about it means that you don't really believe that you have it.  And it gives the Libbies all sorts of crap to whine about.

We are very fortunate to have such a hard working and competent President.  In so many cases, your actions speak louder than your words... and as much as I appreciate your candor and openness, some words are better left unsaid.

And by the way, speaking about stupid statements.... did anyone notice Governor Cuomo say today that he needs the Federal Government because his state is Broke.... $10 Billion in the hole.   Which means that the other states have to bail out Cuomo.  Because the Federal Government is not some separate entity with a bottomless pocket.... it's simply an association of the fifty states.   So all of the other states have to pony up because Cuomo can't manage New York.   #RANTOVER

The Power of the Press

Last night on 60 Minutes, I watched as the President was bludgeoned by the Main Stream Media over his response to the COVID 19 crisis.  So this evening, the President replied with a scathing press conference where he demonstrated the false and unfair coverage of the Corona Virus actions taken by the administration.

As usual, Trump was repetitive and awkward as he defended his actions.   While some may conclude that his manner is obnoxious ..... he can afford this because he is right.   America has met this challenge with unprecedented efficiency, which many Americans will reaffirm when they get a thousand dollar direct deposit into their bank accounts next Wednesday.

We will never know how many lives have been saved due to Donald Trump..... all the while with a hostile press cheering for his failure and lying about his achievements.

I never thought  that I would see the Press as a agent of resistance and obstruction, but that is their obvious role in this national issue.
