Thank You Veterans

It's Veterans Day.  A time to be humbled by the duty, sacrifice and heroism displayed by our United States Military veterans who paved the way for the the contination of the freedom and life that we enjoy.

My three kids and I are not veterans.  We were spared the requirement to stand for others.  Both of their Grandfathers were disabled American vets.  And my Grandfather as well.  They overcame their wounds and lived to literally help create our lives.

My Father, John Nestor, was blown off of a ship in the North Atlantic in World War II.  My Father-in-Law, Joseph LeBlanc, was wounded by tank shrapnel in Korea.  And my Grandfather, Jeremiah Nestor, was gassed in the trenches of Europe during World War I.  They survived these ordeals, albeit with great psychological damage.

They did not brag of their experiences.... in fact, they did not speak of them.  When I asked my Father about what happened to him, he would fight back tears and become silent.  I only asked him once.  But shortly before his death, he was intrigued to know where exactly his Father has been gassed in Europe.  He didn't know, because my Grandfather never told him.  And my Father-in-Law never let us know that he was a POW in Korea.

These details were unspeakable to them.

Today is a day to reflect and give thanks to those who stood in harm's way to protect our way of life.

Thank You Veterans

Dark Eyed Junco

So getting ready to welcome some Dark Eyed Juncos to the feeder soon.

Usually these nice looking birds show up around November or December.  Earlier this year, I mistook a common House Sparrow for a Junco and was soundly criticized after posting it on FaceBook

So I made a mistake.  Whoop de Freaking do.

Even a MOAM can make a bird feeder error.

I highly doubt that it bothered any Sparrow or Junco.

Anyway, here is some data on the Dark Eyes.

Nestled among the charming songbirds that grace our gardens and woodlands, the Dark-Eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis) stands out with its distinctive features and endearing behaviors. These small, sparrow-sized birds are a delight for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts alike. In this blog post, we will explore the captivating characteristics that make the Dark-Eyed Junco a beloved visitor to feeders and a fascinating subject of study.

  1. Distinctive Plumage: One of the most noticeable features of Dark-Eyed Juncos is their striking plumage. These birds exhibit significant sexual dimorphism, with males and females showcasing different color patterns. Generally, they have slate-gray or brownish-gray upperparts, while the underparts vary from white to pale pink. The most distinctive feature is the dark hood or "mask" around their eyes, which gives them their name.

  2. Geographical Diversity: Dark-Eyed Juncos are highly adaptable birds with a wide distribution across North America. Their range spans from the Arctic Circle to Mexico, and they are commonly found in various habitats, including forests, parks, and suburban areas. Different subspecies of Dark-Eyed Juncos have evolved to thrive in specific regions, leading to variations in size, coloration, and behavior.

  3. Seasonal Migrations: Dark-Eyed Juncos are renowned for their seasonal migrations. During the breeding season, they inhabit higher elevations and northern latitudes. As winter approaches, these birds migrate to lower elevations and more southern regions, making them a familiar sight at backyard feeders in many parts of the United States. This migratory behavior adds to their mystique and provides opportunities for birdwatchers to observe them at different times of the year.

  4. Social Dynamics: Dark-Eyed Juncos are social birds that often form flocks, especially during the non-breeding season. These flocks can include other species of sparrows, creating a lively and dynamic birdwatching experience. Observing their interactions, from foraging together on the ground to engaging in brief aerial displays, provides insight into their intricate social structure.

  5. Foraging Behavior: Dark-Eyed Juncos are primarily ground foragers, hopping and scratching for seeds, insects, and other small invertebrates. They are frequent visitors to backyard bird feeders, where they eagerly partake in seeds such as millet and sunflower. Their adaptable feeding habits contribute to their success in diverse environments.

  6. Melodious Songs: While not as vocally complex as some of their songbird relatives, Dark-Eyed Juncos are known for their sweet, trilling songs. These melodious tunes are often heard during the breeding season and contribute to the overall charm of these birds. Each subspecies may have slight variations in their vocalizations, adding an extra layer of intrigue for those attuned to their calls.

The Dark-Eyed Junco, with its distinctive appearance, diverse geographical range, and captivating behaviors, holds a special place in the hearts of birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Whether you encounter them in your backyard or on a woodland hike, taking the time to observe and appreciate these delightful birds enhances our understanding of the intricate tapestry of the natural world.

Painting with Portland

So I've decided to paint the existing driveways and walkways around the MOAM abode with paint made from Portland Cement for a white washed effect.  In certain areas, I will be laying tile down in random fashion from tiles left over from various jobs.  I have 100 sq ft or so taking up space in my supply shed.

Don't worry, I'll put down some before and after shots just in case you want your walkways to look as cool as the MOAM's.

Here is the MOP.  (Method of Operation for those of you who are not PMP's.)

Portland cement is typically not used as a primary ingredient in paint because it is a fine powder that, when mixed with water, hardens into a solid structure. Instead, paint is made using a different set of ingredients, such as pigments, binders, solvents, and additives. However, Portland cement can be used to make a type of paint called "cement paint" or "whitewash," which is often used for coating masonry surfaces like walls and fences. Here's a basic recipe for making cement paint:

Ingredients:

  1. Portland Cement: You will need Portland cement, which is commonly available at hardware stores.
  2. Water: You'll use water to mix with the cement to create a paintable consistency.
  3. Lime (optional): Adding lime can help improve the workability and adhesion of the cement paint.

Instructions:

  1. Safety Precautions: Always wear appropriate safety gear, including gloves and eye protection, when working with cement and other materials.

  2. Mixing: To make cement paint, mix Portland cement and water in a ratio of about 1 part cement to 1 part water. You can adjust the ratio slightly to achieve the desired consistency. Add lime if desired, but it's optional.

  3. Stir Thoroughly: Use a mixing tool, like a stir stick or a drill with a paddle attachment, to thoroughly blend the cement and water. Continue mixing until you achieve a smooth and consistent paste-like consistency.

  4. Application: Apply the cement paint to the masonry surface using a brush or a roller. Make sure the surface is clean and free of dust, dirt, and loose particles before applying the paint. Multiple coats may be needed for proper coverage and protection.

  5. Drying: Allow the cement paint to dry. The drying time may vary depending on environmental conditions, but it typically takes a few hours to a day for the paint to set.

  6. Additional Coats (Optional): If needed, you can apply additional coats to achieve the desired finish and level of protection.

It's important to note that cement paint is different from traditional paints in terms of appearance and application. It tends to have a rough texture and is typically used for functional purposes, such as providing a protective coating for masonry surfaces. It is not suitable for painting on surfaces like wood or metal, which require different types of paint.

365 Days To Go

 https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/nov/07/donald-trump-joe-biden-state-poll-2024-president-election

With a year to go until the 2024 Presidential election, Trump is ahead in the polls.

Not for Nothing, but Trump must be crushing the actual poll results for the biased Liberal Main Stream Media to report that he is leading.

To see propagandists like Small George Steffy express his exasperation about this is a special treat to Conservatives who continue to  witness the biased and one sided coverage day after day.  And check out the above link to the British Guardian.... their bewilderment is priceless.

What is becoming more and more apparent is that the Main Stream Media and it's controlling Progressive overlords are severely out of touch with the Silent Majority, who refuse to digest the corrupt garbage fed to them daily by a bought and sold national press.

Of course Biden will win though.  As long as voter ID is ignored and mail in voting is in place, the Dems will always win.  But this year will be extremely interesting as the Libs seek to hog tie Trump down with their Lawfare tactics that the great unwashed can see right through.

Watching this play out this year will be the best show in town.  Stay tuned to this Blog for the unvarnished truth.

Never Again?

It's been close to eighty years since the Nazi's in Europe were defeated and we found that inconceiveable hatred that was perpetuated upon Jewish people.

The horror of the Holocaust was ingrained in the Baby Boomers who were born when the Greatest Generation turned from the conclusion of World War II.  "Never Again"was a slogan to Jewish Survival that we all embraced and supported, and the creation of an Israeli state in small portion of arid Middle Eastern land was a small price to pay for a people who were faced with genocidal extermination for no reason other than Hate.

We Baby Boomers grew up in a world feeling that the hate exhibited by the Nazis could never be reincarnated.  It was inconceivable that history would ever repeat itself.

But now, this generation has forgotton as AntiSemitism has raised it's ugly head again.  The Hate has been reincarnated eighty years later.

The Resurgence of Antisemitism is a troubling Trend in today's world.

Antisemitism, the irrational and deep-seated hatred of Jewish people, has been a persistent stain on human history for centuries. Despite the lessons learned from the horrors of the Holocaust, the world is witnessing a concerning resurgence of antisemitic incidents. This alarming trend is a reminder that we must remain vigilant and committed to combating hatred and prejudice in all its forms.

Historical Context

Antisemitism is not a new phenomenon; it has deep historical roots that extend back centuries. Jews have faced discrimination, persecution, and violence throughout history, with notable examples such as the Spanish Inquisition, Russian pogroms, and the Holocaust. After the horrors of World War II, many believed that the world had learned its lesson and that antisemitism would be confined to the darkest pages of history. Unfortunately, recent events suggest otherwise.

The Modern Resurgence

In recent years, there has been a noticeable uptick in antisemitic incidents across the globe. These incidents come in various forms, from online harassment to physical violence. It is essential to recognize that antisemitism is not confined to any single region or ideology; it is a pervasive issue that transcends boundaries and political affiliations.

  1. Online Harassment: Social media platforms have become breeding grounds for antisemitic hate speech and conspiracy theories. Online trolls and extremists use these platforms to disseminate hateful content, which can contribute to radicalization and real-world violence.

  2. Violent Attacks: Jewish communities and individuals have been targeted in violent attacks in various countries. Synagogues, Jewish schools, and community centers have been subjected to vandalism and even shootings. These acts of violence have caused fear and insecurity within the Jewish community.

  3. Conspiracy Theories: Antisemitic conspiracy theories have gained traction in recent years. These often baseless claims accuse Jews of controlling the world's finances, politics, or media, perpetuating harmful stereotypes and promoting discrimination.

  4. Boycotts and Anti-Israel Sentiment: While criticism of Israel's policies is legitimate, some individuals and groups use anti-Israel sentiment as a cover for antisemitism. They conflate Israeli policies with all Jewish people, leading to the boycott of Jewish-owned businesses and institutions.

Addressing the Resurgence

Fighting the resurgence of antisemitism is a collective responsibility. Here are some steps that can help combat this troubling trend:

  1. Education and Awareness: Education is a powerful tool in the fight against antisemitism. Promote tolerance, diversity, and understanding in schools and communities to raise awareness about the history and consequences of hatred.

  2. Legislation: Governments should enact and enforce laws that combat hate speech and discrimination, both online and offline. These measures should protect all vulnerable communities, including Jewish people.

  3. Reporting and Monitoring: Encourage individuals to report antisemitic incidents to law enforcement and relevant organizations. Governments and NGOs should establish monitoring mechanisms to track and address hate crimes effectively.

  4. Interfaith and Intercommunity Dialogue: Promote dialogue and collaboration between different religious and cultural communities. Encourage interfaith events and discussions to foster understanding and unity.

  5. Social Media Responsibility: Social media platforms must take a proactive role in monitoring and removing hate speech and extremist content. Users should report hate speech and antisemitic content to hold platforms accountable.

The resurgence of antisemitism is a deeply troubling trend in today's world, reminding us of the importance of combating hatred and prejudice at all levels of society. As a global community, we must stand together against antisemitism and all forms of discrimination, reaffirming our commitment to a world built on tolerance, understanding, and acceptance. Only by working together can we hope to eradicate this age-old and deeply ingrained form of hatred once and for all.

Instructions for White Liberals

Morgan Freeman says it Best.

When you virtue signal with your "Black Lives Matter" lawn signs and home banners... you are part of the problem.  Some may even call you a latent racist seeking to disguise your deep psychological feelings.

Stop lecturing others and listen to Morgan Freeman if you sincerely want change.
