Gerrymandering

Not for nothing…. But….. the MOAM is sitting here this fine morning in good old Marblehead, sipping that special clove-and-turmeric coffee, scratching my head over a little piece of local history that’s still making national noise.

Y’know, Elbridge Gerry — one of our own, a bona fide renowned resident right here in Marblehead where the MOAM lives and breathes — signed the Declaration of Independence, helped birth this country, and then went on to give us the word “gerrymandering” when the Massachusetts legislature drew those crazy salamander-shaped districts back in 1812. Gerry was a righteous and courageous dude, and he was Governor of Massachusetts when this controversial redistricting hit. Ironically, Elbridge was opposed to it, but his name has been painted on the practice eversince.
And wouldn’t you know it, Peeps? Here we are in 2026 and gerrymandering is STILL a red-hot political football, with both sides screaming about rigged maps from coast to coast. Funny how some things from Marblehead never really go away, huh?
Boston Strong.
America Strong.
MOAM Out.
