Donald Trump and The Fryeburg Fair

It's easy to see how my Lefty friends can spew hatred upon Donald Trump.  What's to like about a guy who owns Golf Courses, Hotels, 747 Jets, married to a super mode, and a former President of the United States!

He's an incompetent loser right?  Yeah Right.

So it is that this Letitia James person... a New York Atorney General has chaged him with overvaluing his real estate assets to get loans.  Never mind that he paid the loans back.  Like the Wizard of Oz said, "Do Not Look at the Curtain".

It's simply high theater and drama to quell the deep seated psychological fear that Libs like James have for Trump.

And if you were at the Fryeburg fair yesterday like I was, you would be amazed at the 100% support that Trump has in heartland America.  Every T-Shirt, Every hat, emplazoned with MAGA stuff and Let's Go Brandon crap.

In the end, the fantasy of people like James.... to harness and stop support for Trump.... is a fool's errand.  The Peeps support this guy.

Kevin McCarthy and Powerball

Republicans showed yesterday why they have a hard time defeating their Democrat brethren.  Republicans don't pack together like a herd of baying sheep.  They think freely and are not afraid of criticizing each other in stark contrast to Democrats who get in lockstep behind the groupthink agenda.

So it is that Kevin McCarthy was ousted from the Speakership of the House of Representatives.  So called Hard line Conservatives reacted to his compromise in letting the deficit to continue rising in order to keep the cash flowing into the Federal Government.

Lots of my friends did not trust McCarthy.... with his RINO habits and all.  The MOAM liked him... if only because he was such a sharp contrast to Nancy Pelosi who is as pure a power grasping pol as ever was.

But, as my friend Kevin Geaney used to tell me as a young pup, "Politics is a Contact Sport".  And McCarthy just got sacked in the backfield.

In a lighter note, the PowerBall lottery is up to $1.2 Billion.  That would come in handy in financing this pathetic Blog.

Take a Hike.... the Appalachian Trail - A Feat of the Feet

For some reason, the Appalachian Trail is trending on the Web this morning. Since the MOAM thought he was going to die by hiking the ten miles or so up Moat Mountain in North Conway, the thought of anyone making the 2,000 trek to through hike this Trail is mindblowing. Yet people do it every year.

My friend, Christos Laganos did it about ten years ago, and he has some incredible stories to tell..... Stories about physical endurance, and social calamities. I am totally in awe of people like Christos who have hiked the Appalachian Trail.

So I thought would see how my assistant, ChatGPT out linelines this feat.

Nestled in the heart of the Eastern United States, the Appalachian Trail (AT) is a hiker's dream come true. Whether you're a seasoned thru-hiker or a weekend warrior, this 2,190-mile odyssey promises breathtaking views, physical challenges, and a connection with nature that's truly unparalleled.

The Appalachian Trail: An Introduction

The AT, as it's affectionately known, stretches from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. It traverses 14 states, meandering through diverse landscapes that include lush forests, rugged mountains, and pristine lakes. Named after the Appalachian Mountains, the trail offers an experience that's as varied as it is enchanting.

Preparing for the Adventure

Before you lace up your hiking boots, it's essential to be prepared. Planning is key when tackling a hike of this magnitude. Here are some crucial steps to take:

1. Gear Up: Invest in high-quality gear, including a comfortable backpack, reliable hiking boots, a lightweight tent, and a warm sleeping bag. Don't forget essential items like a water filter, maps, and a headlamp.

2. Physical Training: Hiking the AT is no walk in the park. Begin a training regimen several months in advance, focusing on endurance, strength, and flexibility. Cardiovascular exercises, such as hiking and running, will help prepare you for the long days on the trail.

3. Resupply Strategy: Plan your resupply points carefully. These are locations along the trail where you can restock on food, water, and other necessities. This will save you from carrying an excessive load of supplies.

4. Permits and Regulations: Be aware of the trail's regulations and obtain any necessary permits. Respect Leave No Trace principles, which include packing out all trash and minimizing your impact on the environment.

The Trail Experience

Hiking the AT is an experience like no other. Here's a glimpse of what you can expect:

1. Scenic Beauty: Prepare to be awestruck by the diverse landscapes you'll encounter. From the lush forests of Georgia to the rocky terrain of New Hampshire's White Mountains, every step offers a new and captivating vista.

2. Camaraderie: The AT community is tight-knit and welcoming. You'll meet fellow hikers from all walks of life and forge lasting friendships. Trail magic, where strangers offer acts of kindness like hot meals or rides into town, is a cherished part of the experience.

3. Mental Toughness: The trail will test your mental fortitude. There will be times when the weight of your backpack feels unbearable or the weather takes a turn for the worse. These challenges are opportunities for personal growth and resilience.

4. Wildlife Encounters: Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife! You might spot deer, black bears, moose, and a plethora of bird species. Remember to observe from a safe distance and avoid feeding any animals.

5. Sense of Accomplishment: Completing the AT is a monumental achievement. Whether you hike the entire trail or just a section, the sense of accomplishment and self-discovery is immeasurable.

Trail Etiquette

Respecting the AT and fellow hikers is paramount. Always follow Leave No Trace principles, yield the trail to those going uphill, and be courteous to others. Share stories and advice with fellow hikers, and remember that this journey is as much about the people you meet as it is about the trail itself.

Conclusion

Hiking the Appalachian Trail is an epic adventure that will challenge you physically and mentally while rewarding you with unparalleled natural beauty and a strong sense of community. So, lace up your hiking boots, pack your backpack, and get ready to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. The AT is waiting, and the trail is calling. Will you answer?

So there it is. Carve out a year of your life, and start walking.

Antidote for MAGA Trump Fear

So Trump doesn't bother the MOAM, but with my great insight and sensitivity, I can sense that a gaze like this in his court appearance today might scare the crap out of those with TDS.

If Trump caused such anxiety in me, I would purchase a couple of these Trump mugs available at the Nanepashemet Etsy Store.

Then I would stare at the mugs until the terror subsides.

Russ Francis Dies in Air Accident

Russ Francis, the great tight end of the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers, has died in an aircraft accident at Lake Placid tody.  He was an avid pilot and loved to fly.

I first knew of Francis when my brother and I were rapid Track and Field fans in the 1070's.  He was the US High School Javelin record holder and his 217' throw stood for 17 years.  Even when he emerged as such an accomplished player on the Pats, I still thought of him primarily as a track and field guy.

So it was great for me when I was in one of the boxes at Gillette Stadium for a game one day when Francis came by to talk with the box owners and their guests.  He was making the rounds of the room and I waited patiently until he came near, then introduced myself to him saying, "Aren't you the great Javelin Thrower?"  His face lit right up, and we had a half hour conversation talking about his track days in Hawaii and at the University of Oregon.

When Francis went to Oregon in the the early seventies, Steve Prefontaine was the star attraction of the track program that was coached by Bill Bowerman, who went on to found the Nike Athletic shoe company.  He said Pre and he were great friends.  To followers of Track and Field, Steve Prefontaine was a mythical and legendary figure and two movies have been created about him

Francis told me that Prefontaine presented him with an opportunity to get in the ground floor of the Nike startup for $25k, but he passed on it.  "Imagine how much my stake would have been worth now?" he said.  It was so cool talking to him and he seemed to really appreciate that I recognized his track and field background, rather than dwell on his football career.

He was a talented athelete with a tremendous enthusiasm for life and his sudden passing will affect many.

RIP Russ Francis

Fired up for the Fryeburg Fair

 Embracing Tradition: The Fryeburg Fair

The MOAM is planning to fire up the Nanepashemet F-150 for a trip to visit the Fryeburg Fair this week. Heading back to the country to experience the quality of an agricultural life in this modern, digital, concrete world. If you happen to drop by, please look me up to say hello. I will be the guy resting on a lawn chair.

Nestled in the heart of the picturesque town of Fryeburg, Maine, lies a cherished annual tradition that brings together communities from across the state and beyond. The Fryeburg Fair, with its deep-rooted history and enduring charm, is an event that Maine residents eagerly anticipate each year.

A Glimpse into Fryeburg's History

The Fryeburg Fair is steeped in history, dating back to 1851 when it was first held. Its rich heritage and longevity are testaments to the enduring spirit of Maine and its people. The fairgrounds, set against the backdrop of the stunning White Mountains, offer the perfect setting for a week-long celebration of agriculture, community, and tradition.

A Showcase of Agriculture

At the heart of the Fryeburg Fair is a celebration of Maine's vibrant agricultural heritage. From the moment you step onto the fairgrounds, you are immersed in a world of livestock exhibits, agricultural displays, and competitions. It's a place where farmers proudly showcase their hard work and dedication, from prize-winning cattle to the most enormous pumpkins you've ever seen.

One of the highlights for many fairgoers is the agricultural exhibits. As you stroll through the barns and tents, you can witness the beauty and diversity of Maine's agriculture. From rows of impeccably groomed cows to towering stacks of fresh produce, the fair pays homage to the state's agricultural prowess.

Local Flavor and Food

Maine is known for its delectable cuisine, and the Fryeburg Fair is no exception. The fair is a food lover's paradise, offering a smorgasbord of mouthwatering treats that cater to every palate. From classic fair staples like fried dough and cotton candy to Maine specialties such as lobster rolls and blueberry pie, there's no shortage of delicious options to savor.

In addition to indulging in culinary delights, you can also support local artisans by exploring the craft vendors and artisans spread throughout the fairgrounds. Handcrafted goods, from intricate woodwork to beautifully woven textiles, showcase the incredible talent of Maine's artisans.

Entertainment for All Ages

The Fryeburg Fair is more than just a celebration of agriculture and food; it's a place for family fun and entertainment. With a diverse lineup of activities and attractions, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Children will be thrilled by the carnival rides, games, and petting zoos, while adults can take in live music performances, tractor pulls, and harness racing. The fair's legendary pig scrambles and skillet tosses add an extra layer of excitement and humor to the proceedings.

A Sense of Community

What truly sets the Fryeburg Fair apart is the palpable sense of community that permeates the event. It's a place where neighbors come together, reconnect, and forge new friendships. There's a warmth and familiarity in the air that makes you feel like you're part of one big, extended Maine family.

Conclusion

The Fryeburg Fair is more than just an annual event; it's a celebration of Maine's heritage, a showcase of its agricultural prowess, and a testament to the enduring sense of community that defines the state. You should go too. Maybe I will open a Nanepashemet Peeps Booth.
