Search continues in Burlington, Vt., for missing Student

~
If it can possibly happen, then you are not overreacting. I sure hope that my grandchildren never crap on their parents for overreacting. Lord, please make that girl be okay.
~
Associated Press -
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Fliers went up, police fanned out and students at the University of Vermont hoped against hope Monday as the search for a missing student continued through a second day.
"We're not wanting to jump to conclusions," said senior Allison Bush.
Michelle Gardner-Quinn, a 21-year-old senior from Arlington, Va., was reported missing Saturday after failing to show up for dinner with her parents. She was last seen heading home from a night on the town, and college officials and fellow students alike worried she may have been a victim of foul play.
"She's out of place with no logical explanation for being out of place," said police Detective Kim Edwards. "At this point we do not believe she left on her own free will."
Police said there was concern Gardner-Quinn may have fallen prey to a man who tried to lure a woman into his car at about the same time she was last seen, about three-quarters of a mile away.
That woman told police the man _ in his 20s, driving a white "Subaru-type" hatchback vehicle and wearing a baseball cap and gray hooded sweat shirt _ asked her to get into the car and she refused, according to Police Chief Thomas Tremblay.
According to Tremblay, that happened about 20 minutes after Gardner-Quinn was last seen, but he said it was unclear if that was related and he conceded that investigators were struggling for leads.
"We consider Michelle's disappearance to be highly suspicious and time is essential as this investigation enters its third day," the chief said at an afternoon news conference.
"We're going to remain hopeful until there's a reason not to," said Deputy Police Chief Michael Schirling.
Gardner-Quinn, a senior majoring in Latin American studies and environmental science, went out Friday with a group of friends to celebrate one's 21st birthday at several downtown bars. She parted with the group about 2:15 a.m. to walk back up the hill toward campus, accompanied by a person her friends described as "a random guy."
She hasn't been seen since.
The timing of the disappearance _ during parents' weekend, with her parents at the university to visit her _ fueled fears that something bad happened to her.
Her parents reported her missing Saturday night after Gardner-Quinn failed to show up for a planned visit with them, Edwards said. They weren't immediately available to comment Monday; they asked police not to release their names.
"We have many detectives working on the case round the clock," said Edwards. "We've been here all night and today. We're following a bunch of leads, following up to include or exclude people or vehicles."
Police say the man Gardner-Quinn's friends saw her leaving with is not a suspect in her disappearance.
Fliers with her likeness, name and police contact information were posted on utility poles and in campus buildings Monday and police widened their search beyond the city limits, where officers had canvassed neighborhoods looking for clues or information.
University of Vermont officials sent a campus-wide e-mail alert describing Gardner-Quinn and appealing for help finding her, according to spokesman Enrique Corredera.
Friends said they were very worried about Gardner-Quinn, who has gone on exchange programs to Brazil, Costa Rica and South Africa during her time at the university.
"She's not the type of person who would just disappear," friend Tommy Lang told The Burlington Free Press.
Gardner-Quinn was described as 5-foot-8 inches tall, 135 pounds, with shoulder-length brown hair and a pierced nose. When last seen, she was wearing a gray coat, a green cardigan sweater and a light blue T-shirt.
Fellow students were shaken by her disappearance.
"It's definitely nerve-racking," said Kaitlyn Dillon, 21, of Winchester, Mass. "So many things could've happened."
Jason Walker, a 20-year-old senior from Highgate, said people were being more cautious about strangers since Gardner-Quinn's disappearance.
"It's a little bit scary. No one really knows, and that's the scary part. It kinda' makes you wonder how safe things really are."
Anyone with information was asked to call Burlington police at (802) 658-2700.
Tremblay listed some of the young woman's clothes and possessions and asked anyone finding items fitting the descriptions not touch them but call police. Among them were a gray Benetton pea coat with toggle clasps, jeans, a light-blue shirt, green button-up cardigan sweater and a black Puma purse with white straps.

Herreshoff Columbia Tender Progress

Glue up of the Breasthook and installation of the transom supports was todays Tender progress. The breasthook will be mahogany with a oak center accent lamination

The Breasthook will be into the interior stem then planed and shaped until it fits. Fairly time consuming, trial and error, but I find it relaxing.
~
Next will be glueing the interior spacer blocks to the interior mahogany gunwales, then fitting them between the breasthook and transom supports. I have to pick up the pace before the cold weather inhibits curing of the epoxy and varnish.

Isabelle and Ronick

Hundreds of my avid Blog followers have begged me to put up pictures of our cats, Ronick and Isabelle. Can't let the peeps down, so I took this picture in the rare monment when they are within a few feet of each other.
~
Ronick is a get along good guy. Izzy is a bitch.
~
She has to eat first and always hisses when Ronick prances by. Ronick could kick her ass if he wanted to, but he just puts up with with her "me first" attitude. They are brother and sister from the same litter and are about 12 yrs old.
~
Katelyn likes to talk to them in cat talk that only she can understand, which is a subject for a future blog post.

Rock the Casbah

Rock the Casbah - The Clash

A cute little ditty that we all sing when guests come over to the Nestor house.

JimBob and Kathy Peabody especially like this one. After being inspired by Ryan and his great renditions of "Johnny B Good" at his own wedding and others, Jim wants us to sing "Casbah" at Alison's wedding some day. It will take some practice just to memorize the words, let alone sing it while we're bombed. Hope Alison marries a guy with a sense of humor.

Practice Makes Perfect.
~
Now the king told the boogie men
You have to let that raga drop
The oil down the desert way
Has been shakin' to the top
The sheik he drove his Cadillac
He went a-cruisin' down the ville
The muezzin was a' standing
On the radiator grille

CHORUS:
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah

By order of the prophet
We ban that boogie sound
Degenerate the faithful
With that crazy Casbah sound
But the Bedouin they brought out
The electric camel drum
The local guitar picker
Got his guitar picking thumb
As soon as the shareef
Had cleared the square
They began to wail

CHORUS

Now over at the temple
Oh! They really pack 'em in
The in crowd say it's cool
To dig this chanting thing
But as the wind changed direction
The temple band took five
The crowd caught a whiff
Of that crazy Casbah jive

CHORUS

The king called up his jet fighters
He said you better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
Down the Casbah way
As soon as the shareef was
Chauffeured outta there
The jet pilots tuned toT
he cockpit radio blare
As soon as the shareef
wasOutta their hair
The jet pilots wailed

CHORUS

He thinks it's not kosher
Fundamentally he can't take it
You know he really hates it

Patriots Handle Miami

Ho, Hum. Another Pats Victory. It's been so nice to be a Pats fan over the past five years or so. Record is now 4-1.
~
Kate and Jay were here, Nathaniel stayed downstairs with Mike and Dale/Buck and Gail dropped over. Did the wings, mussels etc. Joanne did a fantastic job on the food, but my Buffalo Wings continue to rule.
~
Kate checked out the blog and I offered to remove her last posting for a fair price, but she didn't rise.
~
I was really tired after fishing though. After the game, we did the usual, Dark and Stormies, a couple of episodes of Curb your Enthsiasium and then some Kareoke.
~
Dale/Buck doesn't sing good.
~
I kept dozing off, then went to bed. I don't know what happened after that.

Tuna Takes Another Victory

Once more, the Tuna's cheated death. Can you believe we got skunked AGAIN!!!
~
We did everything right. Left Salem Harbor at 5:00 AM with a full moon and calm harbor. Outside Marblehead, the sea was relatively calm with long 6 ft swells that the boat went smoothly over. We were on the NW corner of Stellwagen by sunrise. It was cloudless and beautiful with the dawn sun in front of us and the full moon behind. We were psyched.

Bruett, Mike and Nathaniel put out the squid spreads, and shortly after, we saw a neighboring boat hook up, although we didn't see a fish landed.
~
Then nothing happened.
~
We saw a couple of footballs hit the surface and that's it. Deadheaded for home at noon after 5 hrs. on the bank.

But I saw a large swan swimming at Village Wharf, which to me as a Birder was significant.
Mark Vona was supposed to come, but didn't show at the landing. So we never got to take a picture like this.
~
Don't you think Mark is a big, freaking, show off? Who cares about your, big, stupid tuna.
~
We don't need no stinking tuna!!!

Casting Rigs to Complement the Shimano 80's

Mike and I made the trek to Fisherman's Outfitters in Gloucester to get some casting equipment in case we get into football tuna tomorrow.

Joe set us up again, changing out striper hooks for tuna hooks on the plugs that we bought. He also fixed us up with two sick Shiman0 Thunnus casting rigs. Sweet.

Mike, Nathaniel, Greg and I will be heading from the Village Wharf at 4:30 AM tomorrow morning to the NW Corner of Stellwagen.

Is there a tuna swimming 20 miles from shore tonight that is enjoying it's last night on watery Earth? I certainly hope so.

Equal Time for Katelyn

I felt guilty mentioning Mike and Ryan's business without also giving kudos to Katelyn, who is heading up the legal recruiting for Beacon Hill Staffing Group in Boston and doing a great job by all accounts.
~
If I didn't mention Kate, she would probably give me a pissed off look like the one below.
~
So we're good, right Kate???

Morning Walk

Joanne and I took a nice morning walk around the West Shore Drive neighborhood.
~
1.71 Miles averaging 2.8MPH.
I took my GPS. The eTrex Legend by Garmin.
~
Emerson, Thoreau, Robert Frost - they were big on walking. It gave them inspiration and clarity. I wonder if they would have been screwed up if they had GPS's.

Horoscopes and Psychic Ability

I read my horoscope everyday. Just to see if it has any "validity". I also look at the Aires reading for Joanne. I figure if she scores, or is miserable, then I will get some fallout from it.
~
Many times, the Sagittarius forecast seems to have relevance to the stuff going on in my life. Sometimes it is outright uncanny.
~
There is no logic that can convince me that horoscopes have any validity. But I still read them everyday.
~
On the other hand, I firmly believe in psychic abilities and it would seem that science will eventually find empirical evidence that proves that they exist. Its pretty simple to see why you can see forward and backward in time. Just look at the stars. The small dots of light that you see are explosions that occurred millions of years ago. The light is just reaching our eyes after years of traveling through space. We are literally seeing something that happened back in time.
~
People with refined psychic abilities have insight into a frequency that keys into, or transcends, the speed of light. That is why they can see events that happened at different points in time. Empirical scientists have yet to discover this frequency, but it must exist.
~
Now that I've logically proven this, I'd be happy to share the Noble Prize with Stephen Hawking.

Ryan and Mike in Business

Even though he has a tendency to wear funny pants, Ryan is exhibiting signs of business acumen and is showing his brother, Mike, the ropes at Executive Compensation Group on Huntington Ave. in Boston. It's great to see them working together as a team.
~
If this was the old country, they would be taking over the farm now, and I would be free to relax most days at the Pub in quiet retirement.
~
It's not the old country.
