Friday Evening

So it's Friday night, we did the BYC porch thing for a light grill dinner, which has become a most enjoyable event, then headed back to the Sundance House.
~
The grandkids are over for the weekend and are at D'Orio's for Friday night videos.  Current POTY Kerry D'Orio has sent a couple of cryptic texts which we are trying to decipher and Joanne and I are settling in for a relaxing Marblehead Summer evening.
~
Life is freaking good... isn't it?
~
I'm on my second can of Harpoon's UFO Unfiltered Wheat Beer and have added an orange slice per the recommendation on the can.  Peeps... it's a taste sensation.   I am totally in admiration of this remarkable brew.
~
I can sense an official Nanepashemet endorsement in the works.

Dennis Miller Show

Went to see Dennis Miller at Hampton Beach last night with my friend, Peter Lojko.
~
Peter introduced me to the Telecom business and is one of my two professional mentors, so I was really excited that he invited me to the Miller event.
~
Dennis Miller delivered as usual....  one hour non-stop, hard hitting jokes and insight.  I was tired from laughing at the end.
~
I also was impressed with Hampton Beach.... the Boardwalk is cleaned up and you don't get the general public jolt that I was expecting.
~
An overall highly enjoyable evening.

Another Process

Peeps....
Remember the tenant that we evicted, then collected a Compensatory Damages Judgement for his contempt of the process?
~
We are very close to introducing him to a new process contained in the Massachusetts General Laws Criminal Harrassment statute.  The next couple pieces of evidence will wrap this up according to the police.
~
My guess is that this self-destructive guy is ultimately heading for jail time, all due to either incompetence, stupidity or both.
~
Intimidation of a Mountain of a Man?  Highly Impossible.

So Close.  One or two more is all we need,

Official Constable of Nanepashemet

Made the New Haven run today, but not before I picked up some documents from Constable Paul Minsky of Swampscott who did such a good job serving and executing legal stuff for me recently that he merits the coveted endorsement as the Official Constable of Nanepashemet.
~
It's been a while since I've added to Nanepashemet Official Endorsements, and Paul was a suitable choice to break the ice.
~
Peeps.... if you ever need to serve legal documents, I highly recommend that your hire Paul.  He gets it done, and has a lot of respect in the profession. A good Constable is worth it  in these situations.... you get what you pay for.
~
Hopefully, I won't have to utilize Paul's services too much in the future, but it's nice to know that he is there when you need him.
~
After the Minsky business, I headed out the Mass Pike and down Rt. 84 to meet some landlords and survey some rooftops for one of my carrier customers.   Usually, when we get to this stage, I can close the deal for a telecom site, and today was no different.

Johnny We Hardly Knew Ye

Peeps...
So many of you recently have been asking me lately what is the deal with our Congressman from the 6th Congressional District here on the North Shore of Massachusetts.
~
Don't you read the freaking newpapers??? Can't you figure this shit out for yourself????
~
Obviously not.... so in the interest of getting you pathetic whiners off of my back for the next day or so, here is the scoop as I see it.
~
Congressman John Tierney is under siege lately because of his wife's involvement with his brother-in-law's illegal gambling business headquartered in the offshore Carribean island of Antiqua.
~
Apparently, Tierney's wife kept the books and cashed checks to herself of a couple hundred thousand dollars.... as well as some other company perks.
~
And Tierney took two trips to Antiqua to the company headquarters.
~
But when the shit hit the fan and his wife went to the Joint for 40 days or so, the Congressman claimed that he knew absolutely nothing.
~
Johnny We Hardly Knew Ye
~
Here is the complimentary Nanepashemet political advice for the beleaguered Congressman.... Fess Up.   You are going down faster than Barney Frank on his honeymoon, so you might as well do it with a little integrity in the mix.
~
Obviously you knew something.... or you would have to be accused as a dim witted nincompoop... and that you are not.   So say something like...."I was scared for my wife when I found out that she had gotten so deep into this, and my judgement was flawed by not coming forth to the authorities.   I am sorry and wish to move on from this dreadful matter that has engulfed my family."  And, sorry to say, you should then resign and become a lobbyist or something.
~
Everybody has family that strays from the path once in awhile.  This would appeal to a more sympathetic response to your unfortunate plight, and you wouldn't be insulting everybody's intelligence by claiming that you were blind to all of the Horseshit around you.
~
For the record, Peeps, I think that John is a pretty good guy, and I'm sorry to see him take this hit.
~
And no Peeps.....  I absolutely will not be running for his seat.  If I was elected, I'd have to resign almost immediately with all of the Bullshit in my past.

Old Neighborhood

Peeps...
We laid out Tommy O's deck today and I already have it built in my head.   Now all we have to do is get it out of my head and into his back yard.  We spent the day in the old Beverly Ave. neighborhood with the neighbors working in the garage like the old days.
~
As much as I like the Sundance House, I miss woodworking in the garage and the Peeps in the neighborhood who would drop by and successfully get me to shut down the work with a friendly beer... or three.
~
Being back on the deck and in the basement brought back such great memories with the Peabody's, O'Shea's and others being so close by.
~
But the new tenants are moving in this week.  Business is business.  @BT

POTY Deck

Getting ready to build another deck.... this one will be a throwback to the first deck that I ever built..... a pool deck.
~
Former POTY Tommy O'Shea has been most gracious in letting the grandkids use his pool, and his family is pure fun and class.....and we are happy to be able to help him tie a pool deck to his house with about 200sf of deck area  level with the pool.
~
We went down to the Marblehead Building Department yesterday and pulled a permit from Building Inspector Bob Ives, and I'm pretty excited about the design and potential use for this deck.
~
Should take less than a month to build and will greatly enhance his property.

Friday After Monday

Peeps...
It was one of those weird work days.... coming off the celebrations of the 4th on Wednesday.
~
Seemed like a Monday, with a tough case of the Blahs.  Did a little Permit work at the Town Hall, coordinated some leases and surveys, sent out a few bills, kept my eye on some other minor details.
~
Tomorrow is Friday.
~
I've had a lot of weeks at Nanepashemet Telecom recently when it seemed like Friday came right after Monday.   But nothing like this week.
A tip of the hat to the Marblehead Police.   Spent a little time with good  friends discussing the procedure for criminal charges if malicious damages and theft occur when you already have a civil judgement with compensatory damages.   Shitty talk for the 4th of July, but it is what is is.     Consequences can be substantial, but this Loser Defendant seems to have a penchant for self-destructive, self-delusional behavior.... so we are standing by until the end of the day and will gladly pay for the legally forced move that remains on schedule.    Never cancel the eviction process and the moving vans until the house is clean.  Plus the judgement on the Tenant from Hell pays for it all.

Special Summer Treat

Mike says that the WhaleEye is performing really well, and I bought my recreational lobster permit, so  I guess it's time to drop some traps and begin working the bottom of Salem Harbor and Marblehead Sound.
~
If other years are any indication, we will be harvesting the tasty crustaceans in a week or so, and offering up some fantastic weekend cookout fare on the deck throughout the rest of the season.
~
Summer in New England.  Something Special.

4th Reflection

A mid-week holiday.  Happy 4th of July.  Ryan has the Grandkids and Mike is in Town with Pam, so the day will start strong and get much stronger.  Not sure what plans Kate and Brady have, and I promised Tommy O that I would hang with him for some quality holiday time before the day is over.
~
We have to keep up the pace at Nanepashemet Telecom, so it won't be a blow out holiday for me.
~
Brendt D'Orio gave me some fresh caught Striped Bass that I will chunk up, batter, and throw in the turkey fryer for a special holiday treat.... and   I'll definitely fit in a Dark and Stormy or three, and probably a rocks glass of Lagavulin to commemorate the birth of this great nation.  But not until I get a Harbor Row in with the Tender when the Tides are right.
~
The original 4th of July in 1776 was quite a stressful affair for our Founding Fathers as they literally put their life of the line so that the white males in this country could inherit basic freedoms.   Two patriots of that effort, Thomas Jefferson, a slaveholder, and John Adams, an anti-slavery advocate, who both collaborated and competed heavily with each other in their careers, died on the same day fifty years later.   Adams last words were, "Jefferson survives.".... but he had just passed.
~
In another forty years or so, slavery was abolished after 600,000 Americans perished fighting each other, and the country was truly on its way to basic freedom for all.  Eventually, the country saw fit to give women equal access to our rights.... and of course, 100 years after the Civil War, Blacks were still denied equal access to the privileges of this country.  But this has changed too.
~
I guess the moral of this little diversion is that we are not perfect.   But we should constantly strive to correct the shortcomings in our nature and in our institutions.   And this country gives us the platform do do it.
~
To all of you Peeps, who I pretend to be annoyed by.... but really truly cherish......Enjoy your Holiday.

Ramping Down

It should be a quiet day as we ramp down for some serious relaxation over the 4th..... but probably won't turn out that way as Nanepashemet Telecom remains in high activity mode with our new Boston Microwave project starting, New Haven showing no let up, and that big European customer continuing to keep us fully engaged.  Plus some other minor details that we are managing.
~
Only a Mountain of a Man like myself could squeeze the relaxation into this scenario, and I am prepared for the task.

UPDATE:   Even though I don't drink Miller... it's a great country and it's Miller Time.
Have a Happy 4th of July.  Now it's my turn.

Salt Water Fishing License

It was a nice row, out from the Riverhead Landing along the shore side. of the Harbor, out into the Sound and then around Brown's Island, through Little Harbor, close to Fort Sewall, and back down the Marblehead Harbor Channel.
~
By the time I got back to Riverhead, the tide was out and  there were fifty yards of sand from the ramp to the Tender at the edge of the water.  Put the F150 into 4 Wheel Drive and the sand easily supported the truck and boat trailer.   A nice paddle surfer helped me to lift the Tender onto the trailer, so no issues really.
~
Peter Crawford with  his beautiful Cabin Cruiser and son Chris were at the BYC Fuel docks and I went by the Flying Elvis with the D'Orio's, Ryan and the grandkids on the way out, but didn't see any other Peeps during the row.
~
I felt ok but am pretty sore today, but one incident disturbed me greatly.  As I was coming out of the Litttle Harbor after circumnavigating Brown's Island, I was about 50 yards out, when I saw a small 12' Whaler with three older teens who were sitting there jigging for mackeral.
~
I was about 20 yards away, when up behind them comes a big official looking "Environmental Police" Utility Vessel, and the weekend volunteer boat cops start questioning the kids and tied up for about ten minutes.  I'm sure they were bagging the kids for fishing without the $10 Massachusetts Saltwater License.
~
Massachusetts now requires a license to fish in the ocean.  And what services to we get for this?  What purpose does it support?   But  these bad kids were violating it and had to be pulled over by Police in a $75,000 power boat.   Apparently the services that the Commonwealth of  Massachusetts provides for this license is screwing with some poor kids harmlessly jigging for mackeral.
~
Undoubtedly they will be future Republicans.

Ready to Row

Peeps....
Got the Herreshoff Columbia Tender completely painted and varnished today and will be getting into the Harbor for a row tomorrow.  The Harbor Freight HVLP Spray Paint Gun was the hero.
~
Ryan and I also put the Pram on the ring on Friday, so the row boats are in.  The WhaleEye is to follow on Monday or Tuesday.   The boat chores are basically done.  All I have to do is fit the Piantedosi Rowing Rig onto the Tender tomorrow morning and a new rowing season is in full swing.
~
I was reluctant to paint the inside of the Tender gloss white, but it really came out great and will undoubtedly catch the same ohhs and ahhs that I have become accustomed to as I pilot with the sliding seat rig out of the harbor and out to the Islands.
~
When I finally get around to finishing the Marblehead Gunning Dory, I am going to paint the interior right off of the bat.  It's just too much work trying to leave the inside radius bright.  And the white high gloss marine above the waterline paint doesn't detract from the naturally finished hull at all.
~
Getting this stuff done by the end of June and before the 4th of July is acceptable, given the other things that I have to concentrate on.

Upward Mobility

That's my grandson Will Climbing the rock wall.
~
So now I know he can fish better than me.... and definitely climb better.
~
Wonder how he would do in front of a Zoning Board?

Blog Rating

NANEPASHEMET

www.nanepashemet.blogspot.com/
 Rating: 4.6 - 103 reviews

Peeps... just found out that this pathetic Blog has a 4 1/2 star rating.
That is so freaking confusing.... I wouldn't rate it more than a half star if that.

There must be something wrong here.  Yet we are getting more and more hits each and every day, and are barrel assing up the rankings of the most popular Blogs on the Web.

So despite it's deranged and pathetic postings, this Blog is just oozing quality and popularity.   That's impressive.... even to a Mountain of a Man like me.
~
But still.... very little of you hapless hitters are sending cash.
~
Don't you think that if you enjoy my mindless ramblings every day.... that you should send a check from time to time?   I certainly do.  Especially since all the receipts are donated to my favorite charity.... the JJ Fund.... providing financial enrichment and bottles of Lagavulin Single Malt Scotch to Yours Truly.
~
BTW, please make all checks out to JJ "MOAM" Nestor.   I haven't got around to setting up the JJ Fund bank account yet and will be cashing your checks as soon as you send them.
~
And I wouldn't exactly claim the contribution as a charity write off either, but you should check with your personal accountant.

Painful Compassion

Sometimes when you see people in a self- destructive, delusional pattern, you wish that you could help them see the folly of their ways.   Even when they are irrational and obnoxious, you still feel for the situations that they put themselves in.
~
But they still plummet towards an inevitable conclusion despite any advice that you can render.
~
Compassion can be painful... even for a Mountain of a Man.

Fun Evening

Had a great time on the Boston Yacht Club porch with our old friend from high school, Wayne Webster, and his wife Claudia tonight.
~
I still don't know what Wayne does, but it is something to do with consulting to cardiologists.
~
It was cool to see the cannon and flag ceremony.

Advance Notice

Peeps....
WhaleEye will be in well before the 4th, so don't email me anymore OK?
~
We'll be doing some harbor tours, grilling at Brown's Island and celebrating the birth of this great nation... and celebrating all sorts of other stuff.
~
No..... we won't be packing it in at Nanepashemet Telecom... there's way too much to do and the customer demand isn't letting up even a little.
~
And Yes...... the Nanepashemet Rental Program is coming along great as well.  Lots of investor interest and we have picked up on some excellent management techniques and resources for solving some of the common concerns.
~
So that should answer your annoying questions before you need to burden me with your whiny vm's and irritating emails.

For Future Reference

@BT
You can send first-class mail to the old address with an "Return Service Requested" endorsement. The mail will be returned to you with the new address if the USPS has a forwarding address on file.    So  you can easily find them for future references and legal if needed.  For the rest of the process, go by the agreement,  make sure you follow the rules, and everything will work out fine.
UPDATE - Mini G has given me all the statements I need.  I have their ID through a verifiable URL path to their Comcast account.
Let me know if I can help you on your case.  Hit this to return

Healthcare and Hell

They are dancing on ABC News tonight as the Supreme Court held ObamaCare as constitutional.  Apparently the Government can force us to make purchases against our will.
~
Diane Sawyer is downright moist, and George Stephanademocratopofus has that little twinkle in his leftest, liberally biased eyes.
~
And why are you anchorless Peeps looking at me with your confused, out-to-lunch gazes????
~
As you know, I don't have all of the answers... and the few that I have are usually off the mark.
~
But my considered, Mountain of a Man opinion is that the cost of health care for working stiffs will skyrocket, and the quality will plummet.
~
If you are one of the Loser, suck off of the producers and contribute nothing, types.... I wouldn't celebrate too hard.   Even ObamaCare won't help you in Hell.

Ratchet

Peeps...
I've decided to ratchet things up a little bit.
~
And those of you who know me probably know what's coming.
~
A little bit of balls to the wall, who gives a shit action....  plus some other stuff.
~
Hate to go there, but it's a case of the Captain speaking to Maximus.
~
BT.  Give me a call.  You will enjoy this.

Wild Bill Said...
"If we wish to fight, the enemy can be forced to an engagement even though he be sheltered behind a high rampart and a deep ditch. All we need do is attack some other place that he will be obliged to relieve. If we do not wish to fight, we can prevent the enemy from engaging us even though the lines of our encampment be merely traced out on the ground. All we need do is to throw something odd and unaccountable in his way"

Backing Off of Shaq

Ryan was asked to be in a scene in GrownUps 2 today down at Five Corners,  but declined because of the work at Nanepashemet.
~
Even I'm impressed that he would give up his movie career to work here.
~
Standing next to Shaq should have at least been as exciting as sitting next to the Mountain of a Man.  But maybe not.

Apple Computer Experience

Ryan and I went over to the Apple store at the North Shore Mall today.
~
We unassumingly bought an Apple desktop with a big freaking screen to process all of the photo uploads that our Nanepashemet Telecom work requires.
~
Ryan says it works 50% faster than the HP Laptop that he was using.
~
So maybe our productivity will soar.
~
Even if it doesn't, the Apple product line is way cool.  And the people in the store... customers and salespeople... all seemed upbeat and wicked happy.   Old people, young geeks, minorities (actually I think Liz Warren could find some 1/32 Cherokees to hang out with there), and I bet a few of them were even Republicans.
~
I'd like to tell you how I worked with the Apple I, the Apple II and the original 128K Macintosh when I was a young professional... but I won't because it's boring.... even to a MOAM like me.
~
Apple had the superior product, but they inhibited 3rd party developers, so that Microsoft based computers gained the business edge.
~
They hung on and rebounded with the iPhone and iPad, and now have a sleek line that interfaces seamlessly with these state of the art devices.
~
Apple is a phenomenal company.

No Eggs Pancakes

FLUFFY EGGLESS PANCAKES
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup whole milk
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoon butter

Combine dry ingredients and mix slightly. Add milk, oil, water, and vanilla. Whisk together until just combined. Be careful not to over mix - it should still be slightly lumpy. Set aside to rest for a few minutes.Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot. While pan is heating, add butter. As soon as the butter is melted, add melted butter to pancake batter.
Return pan to stove and stir butter into batter.
When pan is hot, with a measuring cup or ladle, pour 1/4 cup of batter into the skillet for each pancake.
Cook until bubbles form on the surface. Carefully flip pancakes with turner/spatula and cook until golden brown.
Note: This recipe also works well with whole wheat flour. Chopped fruit, nuts or chocolate chips can be added to batter before cooking for a unique treat.

Sometimes, a MOAM must make pancakes from scratch when he is out of eggs.

Hammer Brothers - Jack and Sledge

Peeps....

I've found out that calling myself  "Mountain of a Man" , albeit with tongue in cheek, really aggravates some of you.  Especially some of you obsessive types who hit this Blog a couple of times a day.
~
Well... those of you who know me well, and know that I could give a shit less about what sordid pettiness gets flipped back and forth in that fetid grey matter that you have in your cranium... you are the ones who realize that the MOAM moniker will have to be used just a bit more than usual.  It's just the natural order of the Universe.
~
The rest of you may have to deal with what the Mountain of a Man has to say.  Because you know that you have a MOAM Monkey on your back and are completely addicted.
~
Course, reading this Blog really is your choice.   A choice that some of you make each and every day.   Even a MOAM with my power can't force you to read it.  Sadly, you are stuck with the Monkey and you haven't the strength to resist.  It's not the Mountain of a Man's problem.
~
I feel for you though.  Even though I don't give a shit, that doesn't mean that the MOAM doesn't have compassion..... huh?
~
So.... this MOAM is patiently waiting for the sun to come out this Saturday morning, so I can sand the inside of the Herreshoff Columbia Tender and spray the final two coats of marine paint on the interior.
~
By Sunday Evening, the Tender will be down at Riverhead Landing for a tour of Marblehead Harbor, and a new season of rowing with the Piantedosi Sliding Seat.

Yes... there'll be oohs and ahhs from the hapless Harbor Boaters as they see the natural beauty of a cedar stripped classic rowing vessel streak by, powered only by the Hammer Brothers Jack and Sledge attached to yours truly.... the MOUNTAIN OF A MAN.

Not to be outdone by his big brother, Will, Grandson Ethan wrestled this behemoth over the gunwales and into the boat for the first piscine victory of his 3 1/2 year old life.

Most Popular Posts

It has come down to this...
~
The two most popular posts, in the 3000 or so that I have put up in the last five years, are about a Tufted Titmouse and Matt Damon.
~
Peeps....
I've tried so hard to bring poignancy and truth into your life... in a desperate attempt to nudge a little meaning into the chasm of your emptiness.
~
Do you think this Blog is fun.... or easy to write???
~
Even for a Mountain of a Man like myself????
~
So to see that the most popular posts end up being about a small song bird with a suggestive name, and a Harvard Cantabrigian Moonbat who performs ok on the big screen.... well it's just a tad disconcerting.
~
Sure the Tufted Titmouse is a cool little critter, and Matt plays a hell of a Southie character from time to time.... but why should they get all of the glory????
~
And stop your grinning, Matt... you creepy looking Lefty.

  1. just think of the hits you would get if you titled a post 'Matt Damon is a pussy'
    -----------------
I'm afraid that you may have just created a self-fulfilling prophecy, Waterman.

  2. titmouse-Damon-titmouse-damon-titmousedamontitmodamotit

Nice Fish

Will Cod

Fast and Furious Bungling

Apparently the Obama administration had the brilliant idea to sell high powered guns to Mexican drug dealers, then track the guns.
~
Who would have thought that these guns would be used to kill a Federal ATF Agent?
~
Oopsie.
~
I wonder how many hapless Mexicans are dead because of the glitch in this plan?
~
Now the POTUS has used Executive Privilege to seal the file.
Another brilliant idea that will "Backfire" .... so to speak.

Keeper Cod for Will

Grandson Will Nestor  just landed this 2' keeper
Cod on the Flying Elvis with his father, brother and the D'Orio family.
~
Way to go Will.  You and your Dad will always remember the time you caught  this beautiful fish.
~
Nice job.  Now that you can fish better than your Grandfather, it's only a matter of time when you will kick his ass in golf.
~
It's definitely a Keeper... as is this day.

Cherokee Cheer Up for Warren

These nice Cherokee women flew in from Oklahoma to talk to US Senate Candidate, Elizabeth Warren yesterday.
~
Liz had said previously that she checked the Affirmative Action box listing herself as a Cherokee in the hope of having a luncheon with people like herself.
~
Way to go Liz.  Obviously you got your wish.
~
Plus these ladies claim that they are Obama voting Democrats.   So you should feel right in your element.

~
Don't worry that these Native Americans seem pissed that you won't back off of your bogus claim to Cherokee Blood.  That by claiming to be one of them fraudulently is like someone lying that they have a Harvard degree without attending and putting in the time and effort.
~
Just explain to them that Governor Patrick says that people in Massachusetts don't care about that.  Then serve up one of your authentic Pow Wow recipes that were passed down to you by your 1/32 ancestors.
~
That should cheer them up.

EEOC Against Marylou's Coffee Pretty Girls

The Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is investigating MaryLou's Coffee for it's sales tactic of hiring pretty young girls, even though nobody has filed a complaint.
~
I, for one, think it's about time the the Feds take the initiative and eliminate this corrupt practice of hiring nice looking people to help you sell your donuts.
~
Thank God that our tax money is being used to root out this despicable business strategy.
~
I don't care if it's a private business, using their own money in the manner that they wish.  And don't be telling me that we can buy our donuts elsewhere in the free market if we are offended by this prepubescent, prurient, prettiness.
~
It's just not American.
~
Bring back the Puritans I say.  And stop wearing those short shorts while I'm trying to buy my cup of coffee at your private business. Ugly people have been discriminated against for too long.  Dirty people too.
~
I have a federal right to walk into a Marylou's, buy a glazed crueller and a double chocolate donut with a medium coffee - cream, one Splenda -  and not be offended by the lack of any ugly or unsavory counter servers.
~
You go EEOC.  Shut Marylou's down with as much tax money as you need.
~
Although I wouldn't mind seeing a Marylou's stocked with hot cougars rather than the Jailbait in this photo.

Priority Pram Proposal

Have to work the Pram today and get in down on the Village Wharf tie up ring.

  • Sand - 2hr.,
  • Interior Epoxy 2hr. coating - 6hr. dry,
  • Paint 2hr.  4hr. dry,
  • Fit seats and install 2 hr.   -

So 18 hours total.
It's possible to get done by tomorrow night... not probable though.

UPDATE.
Thanks to great performance from my Harbor Freight HVLP Sprayer  that I bought for less than $50 bucks about a year ago combined with my Porter Cable Pancake Compressor, I'm pretty sure that I'll get the Pram in the water by tomorrow evening.

POTW Week 24

Sometimes, you have momentous turning points in your life that happen subtly, and you don't even acknowledge the tremendous progress that you have made, but take it in stride in the swirl of everything going on.

That happened this week.   Seems like we crossed a river that has been an impenetrable boundary for so many years, yet we simply waded through and are now standing on the other side with a whole new landscape of opportunity.

Indian Fighters

Peeps....
I like to think of myself as an open-minded thinker... there being two sides to every story... my side and the wrong side.
~
So you would think that the tolerance and high mindedness of a mountain of a man like myself would be able to look past the foibles and idiosyncracies of the Harvard Native Indian Law Professor, Elizabeth Warren.
~
But I can't.
~
Not only that, I can't see how anyone could prefer her over a straight shooter like Scott Brown.  Yet there are some who defend and support her.
~
A nice girl named Malika just came to my front door with an Environmental Petition, asking me for money, which I politely refused to give.  Then she asked me if I was supporting Warren or Brown.  I said "Absolutely Brown" and she tried to keep a straight face.
~
I just don't get it.

A Respectable Dark and Stormy.

I just had the best Dark and Stormy that I ever drank... outside of the ones that I make.
~
Down at the Boston Yacht Club, the pretty bartender filled the 10oz glass 3/4 full with ice, then filled the glass half full with Gosling's Black Seal Rum.  She then filled to the brim with Gosling's Ginger Beer and added a lemon slice.
~
Yes... I would have preferred Stephan's Ginger Beer, but that was the only flaw.
~
Finally we have found an outside source that has the right ratio of GB to Rum.  The Landing Restaurant claimed to have the best, but they were way off.
~
May have to spend more time at the BYC.

Another Liz Lament

Just watched the latest Elizabeth Warren ad where she squints her eyes and tells us how hard it is out there for us Middle Class types.  More pandering, but that's politics.
~
The part that has gotten under my skin is where she talks about the high cost of college and the government cutting college loans.
~
Earth to Liz.... you are a teacher who makes over $300k to teach one college course.   So don't talk about the bad government cutting loans so that students can finance your LA LA Land Academian lifestyle.
~
I'm not going to spin into the ceiling on this one.   It's nothing as bad as her 1/32 Affirmative Action status... but it is still freaking irritating.
~
Yet the media keeps saying she is neck and neck with Scott Brown in the polls.  I don't believe that, and I don't believe that Liz is an Indian either.

Unsavory Price of Liberty

Lots of paperwork at Nanepashemet Telecom these days.  It's always been interesting to me that the paperwork is a lot more burdensome then the actual work product activity.
~
There should be some sort of paperwork per activity ratio.   Maybe Mayor Bloomberg in NY can regulate this into law as he seeks to limit the intake of sugary drinks and popcorn.
~
The Mayor knows what's best for us and wants the government to make us criminals if we drink over 16oz. of Coca-Cola in a single container.
~
Wonder who will be handling the paperwork on this?
~
Bloomberg might be 100% right about the impact of sugary drinks on our health... but he is 100% wrong to  arm his opinion with the force of law and intrude on our personal liberty of choice.  The road to hell is paved with good intentions.... and it turns into a slippery slope where one limitation leads to another until our liberty is eroded..... that's why the left tends to slide to oppression and subjugation.
~
It's sad to see a fat kid with a Twinky and a 16oz Big Gulp.   But it's his parents responsibility to teach him to make the right choice.... not the government's.   And yes, some dipshit parents will allow their kids to make the stupid choices.  Once again, this is the unsavory price of liberty that must be absorbed to protect our overall freedom.

Adam Sandler for the Starring Role

Joanne ran into Adam Sandler this afternoon in downtown Marblehead during a pause in a take of GrownUps 2.  She said he looked like a real nice guy.
~
Maybe I'll give him the a shot at the Nanepashemet Movie script.  I was always hopeing that Richard Gere or Harrison Ford could play the lead, but Sandler might be more appropriate.
~
Maybe Joanne would be happy with Salma Hayek playing her as the Mountain of a Man's wife... fine with me.  At least she's used to the Marblehead location as she navigates the stairs of the Custom House with her little daughter on the right.
~
I'd be fine with anyone from Beyonce to Julia Roberts.   But more towards Salma or Beyonce.
~
I'm pretty certain that Matt Damon would take a pass at the lead role... even though I'm willing to let bygones be bygones.

Homes for Peeps Program

LOL - Search by the date.  Thanks.

The response to the Beverly Ave. Nanepashemet House for rent post was so strong that it rented almost immediately.  A tip of the hat to Mooseknuckler Brian Donovan for referring the new lucky tenants.
~
I was surprised at the amount of prospective qualified tenants and felt a little bad that I couldn't help many more of them out.  Obviously, there is a trend in the local Marblehead Market for people who wish to rent rather than own.   Because of this, we have decided to open a new program at Nanepashemet Real Estate to purchase single family homes for rent, and have slated about four acquisitions for the next year.
~
We have kept all of the applications that we received on file and will contact you as we have additional units for rent.  We are also opening opportunities for investment in this program to those would like to participate in this strong upscale rental market, but don't wish to deal with the issues of property management.
~
Not all of the homes will have the historic significance of being the birthplace of this pathetic Blog, but we'll do our best to find places worthy of Nanepashemet Peeps.
~
If you know of any homes that may be ready to come on the market, we would greatly appreciate the tip.  You may even end up as a Peep of the Week!

You’re Not Special

David McCullough Jr.’s commencement address: You’re Not Special

This speech was given to the graduating class of Wellesley High School, and is an articulate and modern rendition of the need to extinguish the ego... because of the practicality of it.
~
It is worth taking the time to read.

Middleborough OKs $20 fines for swearing in public

Middleborough OKs $20 fines for swearing in public

Have they defined which words are swears?  Who makes that determination and why?    This one runs into our constitutional right to free speech.  Once again, the cost of living in a free society is dealing with the unsavory effects of freedom.

Seems to me, that the problem here is disturbing the peace by yelling.  I have no issue with censuring this.  But the content of the yelling should not be banned.

Boston Celtics Eras

Celtics lost last night in a hard fought series against the Miami Heat.
~
It's probably time for the franchise to start another chapter... or Era.
~
Since I'm getting on the older side of middle aged, I've been witness to quite a few of these Eras....Cousy Era, Russell Era, Havlicek Cowens Era, Bird Era, and now the Pierce Garnett Allen Era.
~
Each one of these gave their own glory to the storied basketball team.
Cousy Era
~

Russell Era
Cowens Havlicek Era
Bird Era

Pierce, Garnett, Allen Era
There will probably be another transition before the new Era gets a name, but it's only a matter of time before the tradition continues.

POTW Week 23

I don't know if it was that bison hamburger that I had at Ted's or what, but I have been one hurting buckaroo today and decided to take my first "rest" day from running.  Not that it slowed down the pace at Nanepashemet Telecom, where we were processing the substantial gains made in New Haven yesterday.
~
Announcing....
Nanepashemet Peeps of the Week for the 23rd Week of 2012.

Maria Rowen
Gail Johnson
Robert Towne
Joe Collins
Trish Rockett
Wayne Webster

Tomorrow, Saturday morning, we will be hitting the Cybex then out for a run.  Hopefully that will clean out the cobwebs.   In the afternoon, we will be back at Beverly Ave. celebrating Katie O' Shea's matriculation.  Plus it's our wedding anniversary, so I'll be revving up the charm with Joanne to see if she'll hang for a few more years.  And to top everything off, it is Gail Johnson's birthday.
~
Once Again, we will be ready for the challenge.

Yin Yang

After a series of highly successful meetings in New Haven, where Frantz saw the power of a Mountain of a Man in full Nanepashemet Telecom mode, I started the drive to deadhead home at about 4:30PM.
~
Walked into the Sundance house at 11:00PM.
~
What?
~
Hartford traffic at a standstill, accidents and backups on the Mass Pike, a stop off for a beer at Ted's in Westboro with my partner, Mike Elsier, and finally the General Edwards Bridge being shut down forcing a detour back through Revere, down the Marsh Road and through downtown Lynn.
~
At least the Celtics- Heat game was on, although the Celts were clobbered by LeBron James and will be going to Miami for a seventh game.  That was depressing radio.
~
It was like the yin and the yang, all in one day.
~
Tremendous business success, then the commute from Hell.
~
I guess if you are going to go through these extremes, I'm happy to have the business success.... so it's all good.

Creole Translation

Back to New Haven this morning.
~
I'll be cutting through Hartford to pick up my favorite Radio Frequency Engineer, Frantz Pierre.
~
Frantz is a Haitian who spends a lot of the time during the commute on his cell phone speaking in Creole to his wife.  Every once in a while, he throws in a French or English phrase.
~
Basically, I speak English and can piece together French, so it's the Creole part that has me wondering what the hell he is talking about.
~
As far as I can see, he's not dissing me or my driving.... unless I consult my Creole to English Dictionary, it's impossible to verify.  But,  I try to always be on my best behavior with Frantz, because I'm not sure whether he practices Voodoo and I don't want to find out.  Although that RF stuff basically is Voodoo.
~
At any rate, we'll be surveying a couple sites and then meeting with an important Landlord, then returning to Boston just in time to sample the evening commuting traffic.
~
You never work a day if you love your work.

MOAM Burden

Girls in Yoga Pants,  Nanepashemet, Bar Stool Sports, ESPN
~
What do these quality Blogs have in common???
~
They are the exact order that POTY Kerry D'Orio's husband, Brendt, looks at every morning to get his Mojo on.
~
In that order, every morning.
~
No wonder Brendt is as cool as he is.  Not only is his Trophy Wife the 2012 Peep of the Year, but he nourishes his mind every morning in the proper disciplines.
~
Now do you see why it is so important to maintain quality Nanepashemet Posts every day????  Suppose I missed a couple of days posting neurotic and useless wisdom to the Peeps?  Brendt's outlook would completely be skewed by yoga, bar stools and TV Sports programs.  He would most likely be slanted and off center as his life tittered toward a tilted and unbalanced outlook.
~
I hate to feel responsible for Brendt's well being.   But obviously I am.  It is another burden that a Mountain of a Man must bear.

Tolerance and Running

Even though I pleaded with you Peeps to slow down on the Voice Mails... you kept them coming.
~
Keep it up, and I will never tell you how the running program is going again.   But this time, in special regard for the fact that being a Mountain of Man means that you have be especially tolerant and a genuinely nice person, which I am for all worthy instances, I decided to let you in this one last time.
~
If my knee and my back holds out, I'm confident that I'll be competitive in a 5k that is slated for the first Week in August and a 10K that will be held mid-September.
~
These are good sanctioned races, but I won't be disclosing the time and place to you for reasons of security and crowd control.
~
BTW... I'm not checking on weight loss, but meticulously measuring running pace and distance... and have been improving daily.  And I'm positive that the left knee would be a mess right now without the use of my knee brace.  At some point after the 5K, I'll check on the body weight, but this isn't about appearance... it's about performance.
~
This is the last post for awhile on this subject.  It is almost as boring as Elizabeth Warren's Native American heritage... but not quite.

VM Not Accepting Messages at this Time

Peeps -
Please lay off of all of the voice mails and email asking how my comeback running program is coming.  There is nothing more irritating that a VM FULL message on your iPhone.  I use that phone for business you know.....  like making real money at Nanepashemet Telecom.
~
Although it would be cool if you kept sending me those checks for the quality Nanepashemet apparel that those hard working Indonesians keep manufacturing in that low wage sweat shop of theirs.  Not that I would back off from the Telecom business now that the tsunami has hit.
~
But to give a mass answer to your annoying inquiries... the running is doing fine.  I fully intend to start taking some Master's Division Hardware home from some targeted road races in August and September when my muscle and respiratory systems respond to the mental demands that I am now suggesting to them.
~
Plus my knee is holding out fine with the knee brace which doesn't seem to be affecting my speed any.
~
My real fear is that the road races that I enter after ten to fifteen weeks of training will be overflowing with spectators wishing to catch a glimpse of the new and improved Mountain of a Man as he used to appear in his older athletic days.  It could require a great deal of extra police details which could blow the budget of these worthy fund raising endeavors.
~
It's always something.  I can't sweat all of the details.

Gone Guts and Gonads

I've gotten a lot of email lately from Peeps claiming that their comments haven't been published on this Blog.   Why you would want this is beyond me, but your sad obsession with all things Nanepashemet is a weakness that many share... so who am I to question??
~
The simple truth, O Obsessed Ones, is this.  If you sign on as Anonymous, your comments get automatically deleted.   It's not that I would not like to see them... which I don't.... it's just that we operate here with a certain amount of character which says that if you have something to say, you should have the balls to put your name against it.
~
So the site automatically sends your worthless scribbles to oblivion where they belong, and even I, the MOAM in charge, misses the chance to see your pathetic phrasing.    I continually see the URL's of people whose URL trail to this blog shows that they have attempted to published a comment and their URL indicates that they hit the Blog over and over to see their sad Anonymous ramblings to the same empty result.   Kind of funny actually.  They so want to see that the shit that they have put up in a gutless fashion sticks in some way.
~
However, if you suddenly develop even a minor resemblance of a gonad, and come up with a name that ultimately can be traced, then you are automatically published and your words of wisdom are showered upon the thousands of Peeps who hover constantly for anything that resembles a turn from their ordinary humdrum existence.  You will have made it.   Your Shit will Stick.   Thousands... even dozens of Peeps will know that you exist.
~
You even don't have to put up your name and telephone number...you can use a pen name.... just sign up for an account that can ultimately be traced.  No Guts.... No Glory.
~
So the power to publish is yours, not mine. But, as the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility.    Don't feel like you have to be at a Mountain of a Man level of greatness to put comments on this Blog.  You will ultimately be judged by the Peeps for what you are, not what you want to be.  So it can't be that bad, can it?
~
And if you sign up and still don't see your carefully crafted attempts at literary mediocrity have made it side by side with the Pulitzer Grade Nanepashemet Blog Posts????   Just keep trying Bunky.  You just might get lucky... or ....Maybe you'll quit after a while and get a life.

POTW Week 22

Yes, I've been lax lately about the coveted Peep of the Week selections.
~
The problem is that as you Peeps have grown from hundreds, to thousands, to millions across the globe, it's hard to service all of you with your needy wants and desires.
~
Even a Mountain of a Man has his limits.

Announcing...
Nanepashemet Peeps of the Week for the 22nd Week of 2012

Matt Damon
Bill Hillegas
John Edwards
Rajon Rondo
Adam Sandler
Nathaniel Clarke

I realize that this is an all male selection, but those of you who know me best, know that there is not a sexist bone in my body.   Actually... one bone might be a little sexist from time to time, but that's only temporary.
~
For the most part, the selection process is too complex for most of you Peeps to figure out... especially the foreign Peeps, and explaining it is taxing... MOAM or not.
~
So you just have to trust in your hearts the natural purity and goodness that causes these names to ooze to the surface of this pathetic post within such an awful Blog.
~
Have a nice day Peeps, and keep a sharp eye out for posers and assholes.

Taking a Run

If you happened to be driving on Beacon Street in Marblehead this morning, and saw a slightly rotund, soaked to the bone, middle aged guy doing a jogging imitation... that was me.
~
Thanks for not running me over  and putting me out of my misery.  Or maybe not.
~
The photo to the right is a pretty good rendition of what the rainy path ahead looked like without my glasses on.
~
There is an iPhone app called IMapMyRun which turns a simple jog into a tome of graphics and statistics.  It verbally calls out your mile times and instantly uploads photos like this onto the web. Then it converts your loop into a 3D video.
~
But I need the App that trims 60 lbs or so off of a lazy middle aged couch potato with little or no effort or pain... and little or no running.
~
Because the running part is the hard part.  At any rate, usually I blow out my knee when I try to start running again, but the knee felt ok with a knee strap support.  So maybe we'll take a run at this effort again.

Not Guilty

John Edwards is found not guilty of misuse of campaign funds.
~
That's why this is a good system of justice.  You can be a slimy scumbag to your family and lie your ass off about your personal life as you knock up Bimbos and such and ride roughshod over your dying wife, but the justice system allows you to be an asshole, as long as you don't break the law.
~
Enjoy your freedom, John.  Find a hole to crawl into where the other cockroaches live.  You are not guilty.

There are many assholes out there, Mountain of a Man. Thank you for pointing out this one. Keep up the excellence.

Cherokee Nation, Cherokee Tribe

The Cherokees are protesting Elizabeth Warren's fraudulent claim that she is one of them at the Massachusetts Democratic Convention this week.
~
Deval Patrick, our Governor, has recently endorsed Warren saying that people don't care about the Cherokee issue.
~
Well Deval, I'm a person, and I care.
~
So right there, you are dead wrong .... Mr. Smarty Pants Governor.  And you obviously don't care that people lie about their minority status.   But then again, you've got it made.... nobody could say that you're not an African American.... because you look like one.
~
Warren is another story.  If she walked down the street with an eagle feather headdress and a tomahawk smoking a peace pipe, nobody would mistake her for anything more than she is... a lilly white, mid-western caucasian, slightly neurotic, liberal woman.
~
Liz....If you want this issue to go away, quit lying about it.  Admit that your "family tales" were wrong and that you shouldn't have told the colleges to light up their Affirmative Action numbers by hiring you.
~
I don't blame the Cherokees... I wouldn't want you to side up with me if  I was a card carrying native either.
~
But this could be your lucky day, Professor Warren.   Because today you are going to receive a rare gift... free advice from the Mountain of a Man.
~
Here's exactly what you have to say to get this stupid issue behind you.   Say this word for word and then shut the fuck up about the whole subject.
~
Here goes.
~
"Obviously I'm not a minority.  And I should have never allowed some crazy family rumor that can't be substantiated to be a reason to check a box that I'm an American Indian.  But it happened, it is stupid, I'm sorry about it, and I ask you if I can be forgiven for this bad indiscretion and you evaluate me for what I would like to do as Senator for the Commonwealth.  I'm sorry, and I would like the permission of the electorate to move on."
~
That's it Liz.   Stop the Bullshit about you are proud of your family and your heritage.  Every family has a bunch of Lunatics in it and your's is obviously no exception.
~
Maybe you'll still lose... I know I won't be voting for you....(I'll be voting for a real Brown man)  but at least you will salvage a little integrity and could move past this ridiculous situation

Wu Wei

The Sage is occupied with the unspoken
and acts without effort.
Teaching without verbosity,
producing without possessing,
creating without regard to result,
claiming nothing,
the Sage has nothing to lose.
- Lao Tzu

Lao had his shit together, don't you think?
~
His concept of Wu Wei, or Action through Non-Action is central to ultimate success.   It means that all striving, all action should be done in a natural, uncontrived way in perfect response to the flow of events that the Universe passes before us.
~
Which reminds me.... need to get some Nanepashemet Telecom invoicing out today.
~
But shouldn't Wu Wei mean that the Universe just sends me the money, without all of the accounting and mailing that invoicing entails?
~
And no Peeps.  I am not the Sage referred to by Lao Tzu.    Not by a freaking long shot.
~
Obviously I remain unenlightened.
